Effect of coating

The effect of coating, composition and of substrate structure on the oxidation rate is shown in Fig. 12.25 which gives weight-increase/time curves for oxidation in air at 950°C of three steels of different carbon contents.

Given the above observations it was essential in the present study that multiple test methods be used, representing evaluation of the effects of coatings on ignitability, flame spread, heat release, ease of extinction, and smoke. Samples should be commercially prepared and representative of materials commonly used in business machine applications.

The analysis of variance clearly shows that glass type has a dominant influence on cathode tube conductivity. The effect of coating type is also significant, while interaction is of no importance.

To determine the effect of coating thickness on tensile properties, coating thicknesses of 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 0.85, 1.0, 1.25 and 1.5 im of Parylene-C were applied to modern silk fabric. In Table 2, the breaking-load and strain-to-break are shown as a function of coating thickness, and a linear dependence is evident. A similar effect was observed when paper was coated with Parylene-C (5).
