Substituting representation (15.262) into (15.260) and (15.261), and taking into account the properties of the compressional and shear waves (15.263) and (15.264), we arrive at a result that calculation of the anomalous compressional wavespeed requires only the compressional incident wavefield, while the anomalous shear wavespeed is determined solely by the shear incident wavefield ... [Pg.526]

When a molecule is isolated from external fields, the Hamiltonian contains only kinetic energy operators for all of the electrons and nuclei as well as temis that account for repulsion and attraction between all distinct pairs of like and unlike charges, respectively. In such a case, the Hamiltonian is constant in time. Wlien this condition is satisfied, the representation of the time-dependent wavefiinction as a superposition of Hamiltonian eigenfiinctions can be used to detemiine the time dependence of the expansion coefficients. If equation (Al.1.39) is substituted into the tune-dependent Sclirodinger equation... [Pg.13]

Figure C2.5.10. The figure gives tire foldability index ct of 27-mer lattice chains witli sets containing different number of amino acids. The sets are generated according to scheme described in [27], The set of 20 amino acids is taken as a standard sample. Each sequence witli 20 amino acids is optimized to fulfil tire stability gap [5]. The residues in tire standard samples are substituted witli four different sets containing a smaller number of amino acids [27]. The foldability of tliese substitutions is indicated by tire full circles. The open diamonds correspond to tire sequences witli same composition. However, tire amino acids are chosen from tire reduced representation and tire resultant sequence is optimized using tire stability gap [5]. Figure C2.5.10. An important characterization parameter for ceUulose ethers, in addition to the chemical nature of the substituent, is the extent of substitution. As the Haworth representation of the ceUulose polymer shows, it is a linear, unbranched polysaccharide composed of glucopyranose (anhydroglucose) monosaccharide units linked through thek 1,4 positions by the P anomeric configuration. [Pg.271]

The meaning of the word aromaticity has evolved as understanding of the special properties of benzene and other aromatic molecules has deepened. Originally, aromaticity was associated with a special chemical reactivity. The aromatic hydrocarbons were considered to be those unsaturated systems that underwent substitution reactions in preference to addition. Later, the idea of special stability became more important. Benzene can be shown to be much lower in enthalpy than predicted by summation of the normal bond energies for the C=C, C—C, and C—H bonds in the Kekule representation of benzene. Aromaticity is now generally associated with this property of special stability of certain completely conjugated cyclic molecules. A major contribution to the stability of aromatic systems results from the delocalization of electrons in these molecules. [Pg.509]

Ladhams Zieba (2004) has found that university students can be confused when a single-particle representation of SnI substitution leads to a racemic mixture of products (Fig. 1.2). [Pg.21]

Visualisation of a chemieal reaetion as a single event is sometimes unconsciously encouraged by the language that we use. For example, this extract placed alongside a mechanistic representation of an Sn2 substitution reaetion from a popular textbook is similar to that in many others ... [Pg.22]

Instead of its reciprocal value, denoted 7, is used sometimes (3, 124, 156) in eqs. (10) and (11) however, the symbol 7 can also stand for 1/(2.303 Rj3) (154, 155). For this reason, it will not be used in this paper. Alternatively, these equations can be modified by taking TAS as a variable, and the proportionality constant is then j3/T and is called the compensation factor (173). As an example of the graphical representation of the isokinetic relationship in the coordinates AH and AS, see Figure 1, ionization of meta- and para-substituted anilinium ions in water. This example is based on recent exact measurements (69, 71) and clearly shows deviations that exceed experimental error, but the overall linear correlation cannot be doubted. [Pg.421]

First, a group of SCF-MO treated atoms which gave a physically realistic representation of quartz was determined. Following this, calculations were performed using a 3-2IG basis set on a variety of defects containing substitutionals and electron holes in quartz. [Pg.69]

Substituted ethylenes in which substituents occur on both carbon atoms (with the exception of the fluoroethylenes) usually are not prone to polymerize, although some of them, such as the maleates and fumar-ates, copolymerize readily with other monomers. The further fact that, with rare exceptions, the monomers unite through the addition of the substituted carbon atom of one unit to the unsubstituted carbon atom of the next permits representation of nearly all vinyl addition polymers by the general structural formula... [Pg.55]

The above integrals are most conveniently reduced if lrl (resp. Ir-r l )is substituted by the inverse Fourier transform of [ lrl l]7 (p) (resp. [ lr-r h ]7 (p)). Cycloadditions of ketenes and alkenes have synthetic utility for the preparation of cyclobutanones.163 The stereoselectivity of ketene-alkene cycloaddition can be analyzed in terms of the Woodward-Hoffmann rules.164 To be an allowed process, the [2ir + 2-tt] cycloaddition must be suprafacial in one component and antarafacial in the other. An alternative description of the TS is a 2irs + (2tts + 2tts) addition.165 Figure 6.13 illustrates these combinations. Note that both representations predict formation of the d.v-substituted cyclobutanone. [Pg.539]

This is the desired result which may be substituted into the scattering amplitude formula (6). The resulting scattering formula is the same as found by other authors [5], except that in this work SI units are used. The contributions to the Fourier component of magnetic field density are seen to be the physically distinct (i) linear current JL and (ii) the magnetisation density Ms associated with the spin density. A concrete picture of the physical system has been established, in contrast to other derivations which are heavily biased toward operator representations [5]. We note in passing that the treatment here could be easily extended to inelastic scattering if transition one particle density matrices (x x ) were used in Equations (12)—(14). [Pg.259]

The mental substitution of an olefinic carbon with tricoordinate boron would give rise to boraethenes or methyleneboranes (51) a similar substitution with a tetracoordinate borate anion would produce borataethenes or methyleneborates (52a), which are but a resonance representation of borylcarbanions (52b). [Pg.370]
