Substitution application

Other than Complete substitution. Applicable where the wrong material flows in a line or the wrong reagent is charged to a reactor or the required reaction does not occur but others do. [Pg.993]

The foam concentrate used with subsurface systems should be a fluoroprotein type for best results, although some AFFF foams are listed for substitutable application (because of their "fuel shedding" properties). The minimum foam solution rate should be 0.3 gpm/ft (12 Ipm/m ). The supply of foam liquid should be adequate to operate the system for 20 minutes. The foam injection point must be above the level of any residual water in the bottom of the tank. Subsurface foam application is not recommended for open or covered floating roof tanks or cone roof tanks with internal floating covers. [Pg.217]

We have tested AuC13 and BF3 etherate in comparison. Merely 0.3 % of the gold catalyst is sufficient to obtain 96 % isolated yield of the mono-substitution product 17 [5]. The reaction is performed at room temperature with two equivalents of propargylic alcohol 16, thus demonstrating both outstanding reactivity and remarkable selectivity for the mono-substitution. Application of the classical Friedel-Crafts catalyst BF3 etherate in stoichiometric amounts or in excess necessitates cooling, and results in rather clean formation of the sterically crowded bis-substi-tution product 18 as a mixture of the two diastereoisomers in the ratio 1 1. [Pg.140]

Preparation of chlorocyclopropane derivatives by substitution can be carried out with various reagents (Table 10). Differing acidic protons have been replaced by chlorine using base followed by addition of a chlorinating agent the reagents employed depend on the nature of the hydrogen to be substituted. Application of butyllithium followed by addition of tosyl chloride has been used to attach a chlorine atom to a number of cyclopropanes incorporated in polycyclic structures. Representative examples include tetracyclo[3.2.0.0 . 0 ]heptane and tetra-cyclo[4.1.0.0 . 0 ]heptane which were converted to l-chlorotetracyclo[3.2.0.0 . 0 ]heptane (1) and an isomeric mixture of trans- and cw-3-chlorotetracyclo[4.1.0.0. 0 ]heptane (2), respectively, in reasonable yield. [Pg.1289]

Wan et al. have investigated the interactions of chitin with calcium species [257]. In one strategy, HAp was dispersed in chitin to produce intimately blended material. Preliminary mechanical tests revealed a reduction in strength for the more highly filled composites, but they also revealed retention of the plastic properties of the polymer that may be favourable for bone substitute applications [260]. [Pg.170]
