Substance Registry Service

The official version is available for purchase at http //www.ntis.gov. Use the product search function to locate the Inventory. The public Inventory can be partially accessed without charge at the EPA s Substance Registry Service at http //iaspub.epa.gov/sorjnternet/registry/ substreg/home/overview/home.do. Commercial services also sell the Inventory, such as that maintained by the Chemical Abstract Service at http //www.cas.org. [Pg.58]

In 1990, Chemical Abstracts Service listed over 10 million substances in their Registry. Moreover, the growth of new compounds is exponential, lea ding to a doubling of known chemicals every eleven years. Thus there is an ever increasing need to efficiendy identify substances and quantitate material with high confidence. Hyphenated instmments, combinations of accepted instmmental techniques where the sample is passed from one instmment directiy into another, were developed to aid in solving this problem (1). [Pg.400]

Almost all the entries in Chapters 4, 5 and 6 have CAS (Chemical Abstract Service) Registry Numbers to identify them, and these have been entered for each substance. Unlike chemical names which may have more than one synonymous name, there is only one CAS Registry Number for each substance (with only a few exceptions, e.g. where a substance may have another number before purification, or before determination of absolute configuration). To simplify the method for locating the purification of a substance, a CAS Registry Number Index with the respective page numbers has been included after the General Index at the end of the book. This will also provide the reader with a rapid way to see if the purification of a particular... [Pg.621]

The world wide facilities for retrieving chemical information provided by the Chemical Abstract Service (CAS on-line) have made it a relatively easy matter to obtain CAS registry numbers of substances, and most of the numbers in this monograph were obtained via CAS on-line. We should point out that two other available useful files are CSCHEM and CSCORP which provide, respectively, information on chemicals (and chemical products) and addresses and telephone numbers of the main branch offices of chemical suppliers. [Pg.624]

CAS Number - Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Number A CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) Registry Number is a unique identifier that tells you, for example, that aeetone and dimethyl ketone are actually the same substance. The Chemical Abstracts Service is a division of the American Chemical Society. OSHA only requires certain items on an MSDS and a CAS number is not one of them. However, authors of MSDS s are allowed to add additional information, such as the CAS number, if they desire. The numbers you see on trucks on the highway are not CAS Numbers, butU.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) codes, which are not necessarily specific to each chemical. Their aim is to assist emergency responders. [Pg.523]

Chemical Abstracts Service produces the world s largest and most comprehensive databases of chemical information. Principal databases, CHEMICAL ABSTRACTS (CA) and REGISTRY, include nearly 16 million abstracts of chemistry-related literature and patents and more than 30 million substance records respectively. [Pg.269]
