Subject phosphorus-containing

Studies on the synthesis of [l,2,4,3]triazaphospholo[l,5-tf]pyridines have been reported by Schmidpeter et al. <1993JPR458, 1994PS381, 1995ZNB558>. The reaction pathway starts from 2-aminopyridine 147 which is first subjected to an Anamination reaction to give 1,2-diaminopyridinium iodide 148, and this compound is treated with tris-dimethylaminophosphine to yield the five-membered phosphorus-containing heterocycle 149. 

Dobolyi and Bidlo [76] determined the phosphorus-containing minerals in Balatien lake sediment, and thus the forms in which the phosphorus responsible for the accelerating eutrophication of the lake are present. Samples were subjected to chemical, electron microscope and X-ray analysis. Hydroxylapatite was identified, but no proof of the presence of other phosphorus minerals was obtained. 

The synthesis of indoles by the Fischer method has been the subject of a review, where phosphorus trichloride and polyphosphoric acid were used as cyclizing agents [6], Although the first publication on the synthesis of phosphorus-containing indoles appeared in 1930 [7], reviews on this subject are few. The treatment of the subject in [8] was fragmentary, while the review [9] covered the literature up to 1975. It is also possible to mention [10], which was devoted to the phosphorylation of pyrrole and its carbonyl derivatives. 

Some good books are available on some of the subjects discussed in this article, for example, on combination of chromatography and FTIR (2), FTIR spectroscopy in general (3,4), and IR spectra of phosphorus-containing chemicals (5).

During the development and early use of the Selby-Noack test, it was found that phosphorus-containing compounds were present in the volatiles obtained from the procedure [7]. With the growing interest in the subject of volatile phosphorus, the Institute of Materials incorporated the Selby-Noack test as part of the database they maintain on worldwide oil analyses [8] and also determined the concentration of phosphorus in the volatile material generated (initial phosphorus concentration of the fresh oil was already a part of the database). 

Other phosphorus containing polymers that have been the subject of thermal stability studies include alkyl phosphate-type polyols [2] and poly(diethyl-2-(methacryl-oyloxy) ethyl phosphate [3]. 

Phosphorus-containing radicals and molecular species, stable only at elevated temperatures, have been observed by their visible and UV emission spectra, which are excited by flames, and by arc, spark or other kind of electrical discharge. Diatomic molecules which have been studied include PH, PN, PC, PO and PS. If a mixture of hydrogen and white phosphorus is subjected to an electrical discharge, PH molecules as well as PH2 radicals are obtained. 

Only a brief outline of physical methods will be attempted in this section, and no reference will be made to instrumentation. Existing literature on the subject is enormous and techniques continue to diversify. Only appropriate specialised works can be consulted for full information. Today, physical methods are frequently employed alongside chemical methods for analysis of phosphorus-containing compounds.

Chiral phosphorus-containing dendrimers which have ferrocene molecules at the periphery have been the subject of work by Majoral and co-workers. These materials will have obvious applications in catalysis. Layer-by-layer dendrimers, which are built up containing chiral ferrocenylphosphine molecules, have also been prepared, and their chiroptical and electrochemical properties have been investigated. A recent article covers the basic chemistry of ferrocene-containing liquid-crystalline polymers which stems from the extensive work of Deschenaux, who essentially pioneered the area. A ferrocene end-capped dendrimer has also been used in carbon monoxide sensing. The actual dendrimer, shown as 19, has 48 ferrocene molecules on the periphery. 

Part 2 includes chapters on specific classes of cyclic monomers and their polymerization mechanisms and kinetics, their main (co)polymer architectures and related products, as well as current and future applications. Hence, siloxane-con-taining and sulfur-nitrogen-phosphorus-containing polymers are described in Chapters 3 and 4, respectively, while the polymerization of cyclic depsipeptides, ureas and urethanes, of polyethers and polyoxazolines, and of polyamides are detailed in Chapters 5, 6 and 7, respectively. Chapters 9, 10, 11 and 12 include details of polyesters prepared from either P-lactones, from dilactones, from larger lactones and from polycarbonates, while the polymerization of cycloalkanes is described in Chapter 13. It should be noted that, slightly out of place . Chapter 8 covers the subject of ring-opening metathesis polymerizahon. 

Phosphorus appears to have a beneficial effect on the growth rate. At sub-critical temperatures it helps to stabilise the carbide, while at temperatures up to about 900°C the presence of the hard phosphide eutectic network restricts the deformation to which the much more ductile matrix would otherwise be subject. Since the phosphide eutectic melts at about 950°C, irons containing appreciable amounts of this constituent should clearly not be exposed to this temperature.
