Streptococcal infections meningitis

QHgNiOiS. Colourless crystals, m.p. 164 5-166-5" C. It is usually prepared by treating p-acetamidobenzenesulphonyl chloride with ammonia, and hydrolysing the acetyl derivative to the base. Used for the treatment of streptococcal infections, gonorrhoea, meningococcal meningitis and urinary infections. Liable to cause unpleasant reactions, such as nausea, cyanosis and skin rashes. [Pg.377]

Streptococcal infections Pharyngitis, rheumatic fever, otitis media and even for subacute bacterial endocarditis. Staphylococcal infections Penicillinase resistant penicillin can be used. Meningococcal infections Meningitis other infections caused by meningococci. [Pg.319]

Cefazolin penetrates well into most tissues. It is a drug of choice for surgical prophylaxis. Cefazolin may be a choice in infections for which it is the least toxic drug (eg, penicillinase-producing E coli or pneumoniae) and in persons with staphylococcal or streptococcal infections who have a history of penicillin allergy other than immediate hypersensitivity. Cefazolin does not penetrate the central nervous system and cannot be used to treat meningitis. Cefazolin is an alternative to an antistaphylococcal penicillin for patients who are allergic to penicillin. [Pg.991]

Increased in bacterial infections such as pneumonia, upper respiratory tract infection, bacterial meningitis, tonsillitis, gastroenteritis, enterocolitis, streptococcal infection, mononucleosis, lymphadenitis, conjunctivitis, and whooping cough. [Pg.236]

Typhoid and other Salmonella infections, meningitis Streptococcal and staphylococcal infections, respiratory infections, lung abscess Tuberculosis Bladder infections Tuberculosis... [Pg.81]

Doctors in Europe in 1936 had excellent results using the new dmg to treat childbed fever and meningitis. Tests in the USA in 1936, initially at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, showed that it was also effective against various streptococci infections and pneumonia. Prontosil won wide publicity in the USA in 1936 when it was used to treat President Franklin D. Roosevelt s son, Franklin, Jr., who was severely ill from a streptococcal infection. [Pg.15]

Penicillin is the dmg of choice for the treatment of group B streptococcal, meningococcal and pneumococcal infections but, as discussed earlier, CSF concentrations of penicillin are significantly influenced by the intensity of the inflammatoiy response. To achieve therapeutic concentrations within the CSF, high dosages are required, and in the case of pneumococcal meningitis should be continued for 10-14 days. [Pg.145]

This drug is effective for infections caused by streptococci, gonococci, pneumococci, staphylococci, and also colon bacillus. Sulfacytine is used for pneumonia, cerebral meningitis, staphylococcal and streptococcal sepsis, and other infectious diseases. A synonym of this drug is renoquid. [Pg.501]

When prescribing one of the penicillin G depot formulations, practitioners must individualize treatment to clinical and microbial conditions. Some long-acting formulations may not maintain adequate plasma and tissue concentrations to treat specific organisms or infections. For acute streptococcal meningitis, the goal is rapid... [Pg.529]

Unlabeled Uses Treatment of brain abscess, perioperative infections, staphylococcal or streptococcal meningitis... [Pg.1297]
