Stray capacity

Electrical breakdown of very thin oil films is a basic difficulty in the capacitance method also. The other difficulties associated with applying static calibration to a dynamically generated film are chiefly manipulative exclusion of or compensation for stray capacities, balancing the capacitance bridge, etc. [Pg.123]

The local resolution is given by the diameter of the tip of the reference electrode and by its stray capacity (Stratmann and Streckel, 1990a Stratmann, 1994 Stratmann et al., 1990b Yeeet al., 1991). Therefore, even with a very sharp tip it is rather difficult, to provide a resolution better than 1 pm. However, as will be shown later, this is a reasonable local resolution for many applications. [Pg.342]

The circuit equivalent taking into account parasitic effects consists of a contact resistance (Rs), a lead inductance Ls in series as well as a stray capacitance C() and the resistance of the substrate material between the leads 1/G0 parallel to the impedance of the sample. These parasitic effects, resulting from the compact arrangement of the electrodes can be eliminated by an offset adjustment. Capacitive parasitic effects are acquired by compensation measurements. The electrode array comprises some IDCs, which have almost negligible parasitic pathway effects, like position 5-5 (Fig. 11.1), where the conductor pathways are perpendicular to each other.22 These positions show the smallest capacities, which result only from the IDC and can be taken to determine the parasitic capacitive values of the other positions.24 Inductive parasitic effects Ls are acquired by data fitting and elimination from the sample impedance. Resistances of the conductor path (Rs generally <10 mQ) and conductivity of the substrate material (1/G0, >20mQ, exceeds measurement limit of the impedance analyser) are unaccounted. [Pg.277]

Buffering capacity is best around pH = pXa since there is likely to be sufficient [AH] and [A ] in solution to accommodate the addition of small amounts of strong base or strong acid without the pH straying outside this range. [Pg.17]

FL Florida is a flat state with many bodies of water adjacent to our roads. Thus, we want to first be sure we provide immediate safety to motorists on the road (stopping sight distance) as well those who stray off it (shoulder width). Finally, deficiencies in structural capacity could be catastrophic with higher rates of serious injuries and fatalities. Crashworthy roadside features. [Pg.71]

In some infrared microscopes the infrared beam is 250 microns in diameter at the focal point where the sample is placed, and many samples are smaller than this. As a result, some of the infrared beam does not interact with the sample. This stray light causes problems if it encounters things such as fingerprints or dust whose spectrum can contaminate the sample spectrum. Also, stray light contains no sample information, and if it is allowed to hit the detector valuable detector capacity is wasted, essentially becoming a source of noise. It is the job of the upper... [Pg.163]
