Steady Measurements

The sulfur supply system is designed to supply a steady, measured, and known flow of sulfur to the SO3 gas plant. The purpose of the air supply system is to supply a constant flow of dry ( 70°C dew point), relatively low-pressure (1-1.2 bar) air to the SO3 gas plant. In the SO3 gas generator, the sulfur is burned in the dry air to form SOj gas, which is subsequently cooled and converted into SO3 gas. This SO3 gas is cooled, filtered, diluted, and sent to either the SO3 absorber system or the reactor system/sulfonator. The entire SO3 generation process is designed to supply the sulfonator with a known flow of SO3 gas at relatively low pressure. [Pg.209]

Emissions of CO in the United States peaked in the late 1960s, but have decreased consistendy since that time as transportation sector emissions significandy decreased. Between 1968 and 1983, CO emissions from new passenger cars were reduced by 96% (see Exhaust CONTUOL, automotive). A common measurement usehil in predicting threadline behavior is fiber tension, frequentiy misnamed spinline stress. It is normally measured after the crystallization point in the threadline when the steady state is reached and the threadline is no longer deformed. Fiber tension increases as take-up velocity increases (38) and molecular weight increases. Tension decreases as temperature increases (41). Crystallinity increases slightiy as fiber tension is increased (38). Cup anemometers have shaped cups mounted on the spokes of a wheel. The cups, under the action of the fluid forces, spin in a horizontal plane about a vertical shaft mounted in bearings. Vane or propeller types use a multibladed rotor, the axis of which is parallel to the flow direction as the rotating member. Both designs are commonly used for wind speed measurement or similar appHcations such as the velocity in ventilation ducts. Because of inertia, anemometers are most accurate under steady conditions.
