State and site

The theory of thermomechanics adopts the concept of materials with memory . According to this concept the constitutive quantities depend on the history of the independent variables, and not only on their actual value. In other words, it is not definite that the instantaneous value of state variables (i.e. the state) completely determines the state. [Pg.17]

The site function is J R. Since the state is determined by earlier values of the site function, therefore the state g is interpreted as [Pg.17]

The stochastic version of a memory-free deterministic process is a Markov process — more precisely, a first-order Markov process. It is interesting to remark that in the theory of stochastic processes the concept of history-dependent processes, had been adopted by the time the theory was established (i.e. in the mid-thirties). [Pg.18]

Preliminary data for 14 clay minerals with sheet and chain silicate structures suggest that oxidation states and site symmetries can also be investigated in these complex materials [230]. Similar measurements have been made on... [Pg.293]

Its protonation state and site of protonation or deprotonatlon. Their Intensities, on the other hand, are largely a function of the metal binding site, but also depend somewhat on the nature of the ligand (16). Bands of this type have not been reported for any other metal-nucleoside adducts and contribute to making the present system one of the most convenient for study. [Pg.164]

Chemical State and Sites of Ag" " In Faujasite. Silver is known to have very strong effects on the adsorption characteristics of zeolites (Habgood, 1964 Huang, 1974). Yang et al. (1996) reported the synthesis of a mixed lithium-silver (80/20) ion-exchanged X-type zeolite (Si/Al = 1.25 with 17 Ag+ per unit cell), and discussed its possible superior properties for air separation. This sorbent utilized the very strong adsorptive properties of the Ag+ ion, which... [Pg.289]

Electric quadrupole interaction between the nuclear quadrupole moment and an inhomogeneous electric field at the nucleus. The observable Mossbauer parameter is the quadrupole splitting AEq . The information derived from the quadrupole splitting refers to oxidation state, spin state and site symmetry. [Pg.27]

The site specificity of reaction can also be a state-dependent site specificity, that is, molecules incident in different quantum states react more readily at different sites. This has recently been demonstrated by Kroes and co-workers for the Fl2/Cu(100) system [66]. Additionally, we can find reactivity dominated by certain sites, while inelastic collisions leading to changes in the rotational or vibrational states of the scattering molecules occur primarily at other sites. This spatial separation of the active site according to the change of state occurring (dissociation, vibrational excitation etc) is a very surface specific phenomenon. [Pg.911]

In the United States and increasingly in other parts of the world, environmental regulations prohibit the combustion of all but very low sulfur-content coals without sulfur oxide emission controls. The cost of installing sulfur oxide control equipment together with concern about equipment rehabihty have led to the shipment of the lower rank low sulfur coals from up to 1600 km away from the mining site. [Pg.153]

The relative toxicities of thallium compounds depend on their solubHities and valence states. Soluble univalent thallium compounds, eg, thaHous sulfate, acetate, and carbonate, are especiaHy toxic. They are rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, skin peritoneal cavity, and sites of subcutaneous and intramuscular injection. Tb allium is also rapidly absorbed from the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, mouth, and lungs foHowing inhalation of soluble thallium salts. Insoluble compounds, eg, thaHous sulfide and iodide, are poorly absorbed by any route and are less toxic. [Pg.470]

The PTCR effect is complex and not fully understood in terms of the grain boundary states and stmcture. Both the PTCR effect and room temperature resistivities are also highly dependent on dopant type and ionic radius. Figure 11 (32) illustrates this dependence where comparison of the PTCR behavior and resistivity are made for near optimum concentrations of La ", Nd ", and ions separately substituted into BaTiO. As seen, lowest dopant concentration and room temperature resistivity are obtained for the larger radius cation (La " ), but thePTCR effect was sharpest for the smallest radius cation (Y " ), reflecting dual site occupancy of the Y " ion. [Pg.361]

These excitations are widely used to characterize electronic states and excitations, to test theories about electronic phenomena, and to delineate the nature of local sites in glasses, disordered soHds, intercalates, etc. However, this aspect of changing color with pressure is so general as to be hardly satisfactory for defining piezochromism. [Pg.167]

Site Selection Factors that must be considered in evaluating potential sites for the disposal of hazardous waste are covered in state and federal regulations. In Cahfornia, landfills where hazardous wastes can be received are referred to as Class I disposal sites. To quahfy as a Class I site, it must be shown that ... [Pg.2258]

Thailand s sole producer of methane, propane, and LNG/NGL is operating at least four gas separation plants. From these state-owned sites, the company supplies more than 90% of its production to the domestic market. A small percentage of NGL is exported. [Pg.460]
