Start power

The external resistance adds up to the total impedance of the motor windings and limits the starting current. It also improves the starting power factor.

For example, suppose a scram occurs in a reactor with a Peff =. 0075 and the negative reactivity inserted by the rods dropping is, P = -.05 AK/K. Then P /Pq = (.0075 (1+.05 ) )/(.0075+.05) = 0.137. Following such a scram, reactor power will drop to 13.7 percent of the starting power level.
