Stacked plates

The plate dryer may vary in size from 5-35 vertically stacked plates with a heat-exchange area between 3.8-175 m". The largest unit available has overall dimensions of 3 m (w) by 4 m (1) by 10 m (h). Depending upon the loose-bulk density of the material and the overall retention time, the plate dryer can process up to 5,000 kg/hr of wet product. [Pg.1216]

Figure 14.10 shows the end profile of a sectioned stack plate with deep, irregularly shaped casting voids at the intersection of walls. Sectioning through these void zones revealed deep internal tunnel porosity (Fig. 14.11). When viewed under a low-power microscope, the contours of porous areas showed distinct solidification features (dendrites). Details on microfabrication and on the internals in the stacked plates have not been substantially disclosed so far. Accordingly, no information on the mechanisms of mass and heat transfer was reported. In one version, geometrically focused multilamination is used for mixing liquid streams [55]. [Pg.406]

The concentric separation-layer micro mixer is constructed as an assembly of stacked plates for feed supply with three tubes, performing lamination for mixing, set into one another (see Figure 1.116) [39, 53, 136-138] (see also [135]). The tubes are inserted into a frit. The three feed lines are each connected to a tube. In this way, a tri-layered concentric fluidic system is achieved. Besides mixing three solutions, a major application for the device is to separate the two fluids to be mixed by a separation layer, usually being the solvent of the two solutions. This is to delay the mixing process in order to avoid unwanted fouling problems at the mixer outlet This is particularly valuable for spontaneous precipitation reactions which are the main field of application of the mixer. [Pg.153]

The band width in this study was limited to 150 mm but could exceed 1000 mm, thus opening a route to large-scale micro structured plate-like reactors comparable to the large-scale micro (or mini) structured heat exchangers from Heatric [96], These are manufactured by diffusion welding of stacked plates (Figure 4.114). [Pg.630]

The hydrogenation of p-nitrotoluene in the presence of a supported Pd catalyst was carried out in a microreactor with stacked plates with complete selectivity [283,320]. The Pd catalyst was prepared in three different ways. Conversions were 58-98% for an impregnated aluminum oxide wash-coat catalyst, depending on the process conditions. The conversions for an electrodeposited catalyst and an impregnated catalyst on electrooxidized nanoporous substrate were 58 and 89%, respectively. The best latter result is similar to that of a conventional fixed-bed reactor (85%), while the maximum yield of 30% in a microreactor was superior because of the high selectivity. [Pg.170]

Discard the peptide solution and add 300 pL of blocking buffer to each well and cover each plate with ELISA sealing tap or stack plates and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Incubate at least 1 h at 37°C or overnight at 4°C. Plates may be stored at 4°C for several weeks in blocking buffer. [Pg.237]

The above requirements are to some extent contradictory, which has led to the proposition of a large number of different catalyst shapes and arrangements. However, only a few of these have proved really effective in practical operation. Suitable catalyst forms and arrangements include random packings of spheres, solid cylinders, and hollow cylinders, as well as uniformly structured catalyst packings in the form of monoliths with parallel channels, parallel stacked plates, and crossed, corrugated-plate packets (Fig. 3). [Pg.426]

Reactions were performed using a volumetric enzyme activity of82U/ml (GPMR, two stacked plates, and total volume of 49pl) and 6U/ml (PDMS microreactor and total volume of167pl). [Pg.49]

Several filter geometries are available for sterile filtration. They consist of flat membranes in a stainless steel press (<293 mm), pleated membranes housed in stainless steel cartridges, and stacked plates in the form of flat segments of membrane filters. [Pg.3901]

In all applications there will be a drive to decrease the size of the membrane unit by increasing the surface area to volume ratio. This implies a trend from tubular to multichannel (honeycomb) structures and, further, to stacked plate designs. [Pg.12]
