Increased interest has been shown with regard to the plant nutrient content of slurry and experiments both in Sweden and elsewhere have demonstrated that a better utilization of the manure s nitrogen effect is obtained if the slurry is incorporated than if spread conventionally. In a time study made when the distance between the field and the manure pit was ca 800 m total spreading capacity decreased by ca 10% when the method was changed from conventional spreading to spreading using an injector. [Pg.225]

Different areas of the earth s surface react quite differently to heating by the sun. Spread Foundations. The purpose of the spread foundation is to distribute loads over a large enough area so that soil can support the loads safely and without excessive settlement. Such foundations are made of steel-reinforced concrete. When concrete is used for a foundation, it should be placed on undisturbed soil. All vegetation should be removed from the surface therefore, the upper few inches of soil should be removed before concrete is laid down. The area of the foundation must be large enough to ensure that the bearing capacity of the soil is not exceeded or that maximum settlement is within acceptable limits.
