Spray stage

The modeling results of the spray stage provide input data and initial conditions for the modeling of droplet-substrate interactions in the ensuing deposition stage of the spray forming process. 

For spraying higher slimy feed rates, the number of bores has been increased, as the condition for laminar flow in (22.1) has to be fulflUed. Multi-spray stages or rows of bores are placed above each other (Fig. 22.18). 

A special design of the liquid distributor is installed to feed all spray stages in case of multi-stage LamRot. The bores are also inclined to the radial and axial direction and maintain quite equal flow to each stage. The alignment ensures for open channel flows within the whole liquid distributor. No regions of low flow velocity exist within the wheel [43]. 

The gas distributor reduces the relative gas velocity on all spraying stages in efficient way. To assist the swirl flow originated by the inner gas stream of the gas distributor, the LamRot is further modified. The disc under the LamRot effectively prevents the axial airflow and deflection of the threads is avoided (Sect. 4.1). Further improvement is expected from vanes connected to the disc. 

As a first stage, the stream of liquid from an HPLC eluant is passed through a narrow tube toward the LINC interface. Near the end of the tube, the liquid stream is injected with helium gas so that it leaves the end of the tube as a high-velocity spray of small drops of liquid mixed with helium. From there, the mixture enters an evacuation chamber (Figure 12.1). The formation of spray (nebulizing) is very similar to that occurring in the action of aerosol spray cans (see Chapter 19).

The appHcation of this type of conversion coating can be by spray or immersion and is easily tailored to the needs of the user (see Coating processes). The number of stages may vary from two, ie, clean and phosphate then rinse, to as many as five, ie, clean, rinse, phosphate, rinse, and post-treat. The performance requirements dictate the number of operation stages as well as the need for a post-treatment. 

Manufacturing Processing and Uses. In commercial production, aqueous urea solution is mixed with acetaldehyde in 1 1 molar ratios. An acid catalyst is introduced into the reaction mixture which is staged at various process temperatures. After neutralization with a base, the CDU is separated from the mother hquor by filtration or spray drying.
