Splicing of pre-mRNA

The splicing of pre-mRNAs often allows several possible combinations of exons. Despite this fact, only a few of the theoretically possible combinations are realized. This accentuates that the choice of alternative sphce sites must be strictly controlled. The exact mechanism by which a sphce site is chosen is not imderstood. The eukaryotic transcript is the precursor of mRNA (pre-mRNA) consisting of coding regions (exons) and noncoding regions (introns). The mature mRNA is formed after splicing of pre-mRNA (Sharp, 1986).

Some pre-tRNAs contain a short intron that is removed by a protein-catalyzed mechanism distinct from the splicing of pre-mRNA and self-splicing introns.

The term isozyme was originally defined as meaning enzymes with a different primary structure, catalyzing the same reaction, encoded by different genes. However, the term is now used more broadly. Some isozymes are now known to arise from alternate splicing of pre-mRNA to form different mRNAs (mRNA is the final nucleic acid template used for protein synthesis.)...
