Spectral purity

When investigating time parameters it was shown, that a storage time in Xe of spectral purity was 10 mcs, while a restoring time was 10 ms with subsequent decrease in the case of addition of small amounts of air (less than 1%). As basic processes influencing time parameters, both dissociative recombination and three-particle adhesion of electrons to oxygen molecules have been considered. 

The gas tube has two advantages that may be of overriding importance in special cases. As Figure 1-1 shows, it is easy to vary the target metal so that an x-ray spectrum characteristic of a particular metal can often be generated as needed. Furthermore, spectral purity can be maintained because the risk of target contamination is small in a gas tube properly operated. 

To summarize Filtering is an effective way of producing intense monochromatic beams, but it is severely limited because it cannot be used at all wavelengths and cannot achieve high spectral purity at any wavelength. The analysis of a spectrum, that is, the selection of a line and the measurement of its intensity, requires Bragg reflection. 

The most obvious characteristics of laser light are its brightness, its spectral purity, and the directionality of the beam. It is not so obvious how extreme these properties are. It has been pointed out ( 7) that a one-milliwatt He-Ne laser, virtually a toy laser, is 100 times brighter than the surface of the sun in terms of luminous intensity per unit area. Considering only light at the laser wavelength of 632.8 nm, the laser is 2 x 10 times brighter than the sun ... 

Alternative sources of primary X-rays now include synchrotron radiation (Pollard et al., 2007 290). The synchrotron is a large electron accelerator which produces electromagnetic radiation across the entire spectrum, with high spectral purity and very high beam intensity. At specific stations around the storage ring, particular sections of the electromagnetic spectrum are selected...

Before the ruggedness test could be contemplated it was essential to fully validate the method with respect to other method characteristics. Hence the following tests were carried out, specificity, spectral purity of chromatographic peaks, linearity of detector response, and repeatability over 100 injections. Satisfactory results were achieved for all these experiments before we continued to the ruggedness test.

All the chemical reagents used in synthesis have been subjected to preliminary purification and rectification. Graphite of MPG-7 grade has been used. The graphite rods have been annealed preliminary in vacuum. The metallic rods have been remelted repeatedly in an arc furnace in argon medium of spectral purity.
