Specific gravity calculation from composition

The most important of these are the Wobbe index [or Wobbe number = calorific value/(specific gravity)] and the flame speed, usually expressed as a factor or an arbitrary scale on which that of hydrogen is 100. This factor can be calculated from the gas analysis. In fact, calorific value and specific gravity can be calculated from compositional analysis (ASTM D3588). [Pg.248]

The hardness of the UDPNCs (uniformly dispersed polymeric nanocomposites) was measured according to ASTM D-2240 with a shore durometer. Specific gravity of the composite for respective loading was calculated from the density values of the compounds. [Pg.1471]

Typical values for the specific gravity of canola oil are presented in Table 4.13. Ackman and Eaton (1977) indicated that a different ratio between eicosenoic (20 1) and Cig polyunsaturated fatty acids could be a major factor in changing the relative density of canola oil. Noureddini and co-workers (1992a) described the relationship between temperature and density of vegetable oils including canola. As for other liquids, the density for vegetable oils is temperature-dependent and decreases in value when the temperature increases. The same authors also developed an equation to calculate density from the fatty acids composition. [Pg.111]

GPA standard 2172-76, method for calculation of gross heating value, specific gravity, and compressibility of Natural Gas mixtures from compositional analysis. Gas Process Association Tulsa Oklahoma. [Pg.255]

The tracers, usually plastic cubes prepared to known specific gravities rendered identifiable through color coding, are introduced into a separating device, and on recovery from the product and reject streams, are sorted into the appropriate specific gravity fi actions and counted. This allows the points for the partition curve to be calculated. The technique, as described above, was adopted at the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre, Brisbane, while tracers made from plastic-metal composites that can... [Pg.20]

In earlier editions of the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (CRC Press), percent composition and specific gravity data for solutions of many common reagent solutions are given. Let us take, for example, pairs of values for aqueous hydrochloric acid (%HC1, sp gr at 25°C) from the Handbook and copy the data into Quattro, and then calculate the molarity, molality and mole fraction of HCl for each of these solutions. [Pg.9]

In Lavoisier s work on the analysis of mineral waters eight different mixtures of alcohol and water were used to separate the salts formed on evaporation, a method used by Macquer (see p. 87). The results are of no interest. Lavoisier then believed there were only two mineral acids, sulphuric and hydrochloric the nature of nitric acid is unknown and the idea (Sage s) that phosphoric acid is a peculiar acid is not sufficiently demonstrated. Several other articles by Lavoisier on the analyses of natural waters mention the statement by Le Roy that earth can pass over with water on distillation, and Lavoisier believed that true salts would volatilise with water more readily than earth. He described determinations of density by a hydrometer (areometre) and unsuccessful attempts to calculate the composition of solutions from the density. The composition was correctly related to the nature of the strata of the earth through which the waters had passed. A constant-immersion hydrometer is fully described in an article on the determination of specific gravity. Lavoisier had some idea that purely physical methods might replace chemical analysis of waters, and as Thomson said, chemical analyses were not the investigations in which Lavoisier excelled . [Pg.636]

In the calculation of the composition from the specific gravity of the redistilled binary mixture, the necessary correction has been introduced for the contraction that occurs on mixing the components. In many cases the boiling point of the binary mixture is too near that of one of the components to allow of a determination of composition being made with that component in excess, but if the boiling point is greatly depressed one may frequently determine the composition even when the more volatile of the two original components is in excess. [Pg.215]

Typically, the gas or debutanization fraction is analyzed by high-resolution gas chromatography for quantitative determination of individual C2 to C4 and total Cs" hydrocarbons. Relative density (specific gravity) can be calculated from the compositional analysis. [Pg.40]
