Spark suppression

Typical applications for pans which are put under a lot of mechanical, thermal and electrical stress up to +260 °C and under abrasion stress such as cams, bearings, sliding rings, vanes for hydro and pneumatic motors, connector parts, spark suppression covers Natural condition brown. [Pg.92]

AH gas-fired power plants require oxygen analy2ers to ensure that air has not been drawn into the piping system. Oxygen intake can lead to the presence of an explosive mixture in the pipeline before the fuel reaches the burner or combustor 2one. When gas-fired units are located in an enclosed area, multiple ultraviolet flame detectors are used to shut down equipment and flood the area with CO2 or a chemical fire suppressant whenever a spark or flame is detected. [Pg.17]

The first step in the design of an explosion suppression system is to establish the propagation characteristics of the material in question. First, a sample of the fuel-air mixture is introduced into a cylindrical or spherical vessel, oxidation is initiated by the application of a spark, and the test data are recorded. For example, the radial flame velocity of H2 in air is 9 m/s (30 ft/s). [Pg.392]

It was also found that the electrical resistivity of ceramics based on silicon carbide, and, more recently, zinc oxide could be made sensitive to the applied field strength. This has allowed the development of components that absorb transient surges in power lines and suppress sparking between relay contacts. The non-linearity in resistivity is now known to arise because of potential barriers between the crystals in the ceramic. [Pg.2]

Another use for VDRs is the suppression of sparks in switches and relay contacts in highly inductive circuits, and it is instructive to outline the principle of operation. [Pg.154]

Spills/Leaks Absorb spill with inert material (e.g., vermiculite, sand, or earth), then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Remove all sources of ignition. Use a spark-proof tool. Provide ventilation. A vapor-suppressing foam may be used to reduce vapors. [Pg.1215]

Other ways to reduce the risk is the use of spark-free materials in the construction, explosion suppression systems or the use of explosion venting by rupture discs or pressure relief panels [5]. [Pg.103]

The microstructure of cemented carbide sintered by spark plasma sintering is suppressed Co dispersion and growth of WC particles compared with the conventional process, and it is attributed to low temperature and short- time sintering of this process. [Pg.366]

Those references (2, 3, 9) which refer to the utilization of a corona discharge to catalyze, or cause, a chemical reaction are not in fact concerned with a corona discharge, or a glow discharge, but rather a suppressed spark. The discharge goes through the phenomena of spark... [Pg.205]
