Some of the challenges ahead

At present, environmental regulators are often faced with scientific information that is inconclusive and incomplete and they are required to make judgement on whether or not the case has been made for decisive action. Such decisions help to direct billion-dollar investment programmes and influence the continued competitive ability of the manufacturing industry and agriculture in a world market and in society at large. The end-user role that provides scientific direction and decisionmaking is important to successful implementation and needs to be understood and
