Some Experimental Aspects

A comprehensive and thorough discussion of all basic aspects concerning ESR spectrometers has been given by [Pg.32]

Humic acid and the corresponding fulvic acid are complex polymers whose structures are incompletely resolved. It is accepted that the structure of humic acid contains oxygenated structures, including quinones that can function as electron acceptors, while reduced humic acid may carry out reductions. These have been observed both in the presence of bacteria that provide the electron mediator and in the absence of bacteria in abiotic reactions, for example, reductive dehalogenation of hexachloroethane and tetrachloromethane by anthrahydroquininone-2,6-disulfonate (Curtis and Reinhard 1994). Reductions using sulfide as electron donor have been noted in Chapter 1. Some experimental aspects are worth noting ... [Pg.154]

Gas-phase Kinetics. A better appreciation of the experiments to be discussed later will be obtained after a review of some experimental aspects of the transient method. Here we deal with experiments at atmospheric pressure. A flow sheet for kinetic measurements is given in Fig. 1, a descendant of that first given by Bennett et al. (15). Chemical analysis of the gases during transients is ideally done by a mass spectrometer, although Kobayashi and Kobayashi (4 ) used a number of gas chromatographs in order to get samples sufficiently frequently. [Pg.2]

After a survey of the basic theory and some experimental aspects of photoelectron spectroscopy which are relevant to actinide solids, two systems are illustrated elemental actinide metals, in which the Mott transition between plutonium and americium is evidenced in a photographic way by photoemission, and strongly ionic oxides, in which the 5f localized behaviour is clearly seen, and indications of f-p or d-p covalent mixing are investigated. [Pg.197]

The main parts of the TDFRS setup and some experimental aspects will be discussed in this section without going into details of data evaluation and signal modelling. A derivation of the equations for a phenomenological description will be deferred until later. [Pg.6]

We briefly review some experimental aspects which are unique for the study of nonaqueous systems by spectroscopic tools. We include some comments on the appropriate choice of spectroelectrochemical tools for different nonaqueous systems. We also describe the use of transfer methods and spectroelectrochemical cells that should be used in order to protect the sensitive nonaqueous electrochemical systems from contamination, and enable the performance of reliable measurements. [Pg.120]

Part 2 presents a summary of the theoretical considerations and basic assumptions that lead to the model equations. Part 3 discusses some experimental aspects and focuses on the measmements in various shear and uniaxial elongational flow situations. Part 4 and 5 are devoted to the comparisons between experimental and predicted rheological functions. Problems encountered in the choice of correct sets of parameters or related to the use of each type of equation will be discussed in view of discrepancies between model and data. [Pg.144]

In order to provide information on some experimental aspects important for the discussion of surface reactions in subsequent sections, we continue this chapter with a brief account of experimental techniques and surface preparation and pretreatment conditions in section 2. [Pg.220]

Positron annihilation is widely applied to study high-rc superconductors. After presenting the basic concepts (sect. 2) and discussing some experimental aspects (sect. 3), there is an overview of the results obtained so far in YBa2Cu307 (sect. 4), in YBa2Cu30y 5 with substitutions (sect. 5), and in other high-temperature superconducting oxides (sect. 6). [Pg.418]
