Soft surface cleaners

Household hard surface cleaners are defined in this discussion as formulations, powder or liquid, used to clean hard surfaces in the home, excluding dishes. Therefore, cleaners used on soft surfaces in the home — upholstery and carpet cleaners, fabric stain cleaners, etc. — are not discussed here. Also excluded from this discussion are household products that are used primarily as treatments rather than cleaners per se — polishes, floor waxes, tarnish removers, and drain cleaners (decloggers). Also not included are air fresheners, which are not... [Pg.555]

These are all hard-surface cleaners. There are two types included in the general household cleaners that are, however, used on soft (fabric) surfaces. These are carpet and upholstery cleaners. Although these are not technically hard-surface cleaners, they are covered briefly. [Pg.12]

A wide variety of snrfactants including anionic and nonionic are widely used as shown in Table 10.45. Bnilder salts, snch as phosphates, EDTA-Na4, soda ash, and citrates, are also used. Certain special ingredients snch as ammonia or pine oil are product specific and are widely nsed. Alkaline sonrces are added to the formnlations, and they are available from caustic alkali, alkanolamines, silicates, and phosphates. Many hard surface cleaners contain some solvents typically they are alcohol, glycol ethers, or abrasive materials are preferable. Calcium carbonate, laponite clay, silica (Si02), alnmina (Al Oj), and titania (Ti02) are widely used as abrasive agents. [Pg.249]

As an additive to hard surface cleaners, the soft fibers enhance the cleaning properties of existing cleaners and polishing agents. [Pg.191]

Chemistries involved in the formulation of compressor cleaners are very soft. These cleaners have all been tested for immersion corrosion, sandwich corrosion, and hot corrosion on metals, alloys, coatings, etc., used in the manufacture of compressors, and their affect on polymeric materials, rubber, silicone elastomers, epoxy adhesives, on painted surfaces, etc., according to existing US MIL-C-85704B specification Cleaning Compound, Turbine Engine Gas Path. ... [Pg.781]

Cal suds, Cal soft and Cal amide concentrates can be formulated to create powerful, non-corrosive, non-filming cleaners for floors, woodwork, walls, windows, counter tops, tubs, tile and similar hard surfaces. Use levels 1-4 oz./9al of water. [Pg.68]

There has been some discussion about whether pure molybdenum will in fact react with hydrogen sulphide to produce a surface film of molybdenum disulphide. The vacuum used by Bowden and Rowe to clean the surface of their molybdenum was relatively soft, and it seems probable that some oxide remained on the surface. Later work with cleaner surfaces showed that it is very difficult or even impossible to produce a molybdenum disulphide film on a really clean molybdenum surface by reaction with hydrogen sulphide. [Pg.138]

To clean the key caps on a keyboard, spray keyboard cleaner on a soft, lint-free cloth and rub it briskly onto the surface of each key. Be careful not to rub too hard some of the cheaper keyboards use decals on their keys and you might rub them right off ... [Pg.407]

The conventional and most widespread way to remove hair from bovine hides is to use lime and sodium sulphide in a hair-burning process. They dissolve the hair and open up the fiber structure. Though the process is efficient for removal of hair, it leads to heavy pollution. Enzyme-assisted unhairing results in a cleaner grain surface and improved area yield and softness. [Pg.223]
