Society of Petroleum Engineers

Generally EOR techniques have been most successfully applied in onshore, shallow reservoirs containing viscous crudes, where recoveries under conventional methods are very low. The Society of Petroleum Engineers publishes a regular report on current EOR projects, including both pilot and full commercial schemes (the majority of which are in the USA). In 1997, the World Petroleum Congress (WPG) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) jointly published petroleum resei ve definitions that added the element of probability to the deterministic definitions in common use. The WPC/SPE definitions build on the SEC definitions by including probabilistic estimates.
