SNAP model

The Severe Nuclear Accident Program (SNAP) model runs with input from available operational HIRLAM. At present, the version runs on 20 km horizontal resolution and provides a sufficiently large domain for SNAP. The most important meteorological input is 3D wind, precipitation and temperature fields. The time resolution for meteorological input is 3-h in operational applications, and 1-h -historical simulations. 

Using the TRACE/SNAP modeling tool, the SNPP model was developed in a modular fashion. Model builders built and tested stand alone versions of the reactor, HRS, recuperator, gas cooler, turbine and compressor. The SNAP GUI was effective in joining the pieces as well as duplicating large sections. For example, the second Brayton and heat rejection loops were copied and pasted within SNAP from the first loops. The TRACE plant model originally included component models that were developed during the concept selection phase. In order to provide the most current model, most of these sub-models were updated to post-concept selection versions. 

One precaution is that, especially with congested molecules, these potential energy loci should not be taken too literally because rotated atoms or groups (within the model) can stick during rotation, then suddenly snap into place , giving a potential energy discontinuity that has no counterpart in the real molecule. 

Compound (Miles Laboratories, Elkhart, IN), snap-frozen, and cut into sections for comparison with paraffin-embedded cell sections (3) FFPE Cell Blocks Six cell pellets were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin immediately after harvest, at room temperature for 6,12,24h, 3,7, and 30 days, respectively. For further comparison with the cell model system, recently collected sample of human breast cancer tissues were processed by OCT-embedding and snap-freezing the corresponding routine FFPE block that was obtained from the Norris Cancer Hospital and Research Institute at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine (USC). This tissue block was processed routinely (formalin-fixed 24h and processed by automatic equipment).

To assess the source contributions to modelled PM 10, two simulations were performed. A simulation across Europe at 0.5° longitude x 0.25° latitude (about 28 x 28 km) resolution provided the results which were used as boundary conditions for a simulation at a resolution of 0.125° longitude x 0.0625° latitude (7x7 km) centred over the Netherlands. The simulations were performed for 2007, 2008 and 2009 to average out meteorological variability. The rest of the papers included in the volume provide a snap shot of the field at the time of the symposium. The papers by Ferraro, Sternberg, Schrecken-bach, and Webb address new methodologies to calculate NMR chemical shifts. The papers by Kuroki, Kurosu, Sakurai, and Facelli present novel calculations of chemical shifts in molecular systems of biological interest. The contributions by McDermott, Case, and Martin report important advances in the understanding of chemical shifts, and the contribution from de Dios emphasizes the importance of the local geometry on the determination of the NMR chemical shifts. The modeling of chemical shifts in inorganic compounds is discussed in detail in the contributions from Buhl, Moore, Wasylishen, Henry, Tossell, Alam, and Jameson (Chapter 23). 

To demonstrate the operation of a typical non-flowing type, snap-action POSRV, we have taken the schematic example of the Anderson, Greenwood Co. model. While there are subtle differences between manufacturers the basic operation is pretty much the same.
