Sizing agent warp yarns

A surface method of measurement of a sizing agent (partly hydrolysed polyvinyl alcohol) on the warp yam substrate (polyester/cotton) using NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy has been described (337). A partial least-squares (PLS) modelling procedure used a frequency segment of the NIR spectrum that is most sensitive to changes in size concentration relative to the warp yarn. 

Paper and textile sizing agents may be made from EMA resins.In paper applications, the resins modify the viscosity of latices for sizing and enhance the ink holdout characteristics of the size. The resin also functions well as a thickener for textile sizing latices. Warp sizing agents for polyester and nylon fiber or yarn may also be prepared from EMA resins.
