Lacquer silver

Pigment performance also includes fastness to transparent lacquer coatings ( silver lacquer ), that is, fastness to transparent enamels which are applied to metal deco prints to give them rub and scratch fastness. 

S, 0.35% Si, w ith the balance Fe. The sample was polished up to GOO grit polishing paper followed by a 1 pm diamond paste polish. The surface was then cleaned with ethanol in an ultrasonic bath and mounted with silver lacquer onto a holder. The sample was placed vertically in a cuvette to serve as the working electrode of a three electrode configuration. In fi ont of the sample a platinum wire was employed as a counter electrode, and a silver/silver chloride electrode acted as the reference electrode and W as placed between the sample and the platinum wire. A potentiostat controlled the potential and also recorded the current flowing through the counter electrode.

Front-silvered mirrors can be pohshed with optical rouge on a pad of chamois leather over cotton wool. Care is necessary because it is easy to polish completely through the silver. Back-silvered mirrors can be protected by first varnishing the silver and then painting the varnish. Front-silvered mirrors can be protected with a thin coat of lacquer, such as a dilute solution of cellulose nitrate in amyl acetate. The lacquer should not be too thin, or interference colours may be produced. 

The pits are generally embossed into the substrate (polycarbonate or polymethylmethacrylate) layer by an injection-molding process, and are used to indicate whether a data bit is 0 or 1. An aluminum or silver layer provides a reflective surface, and is protected from corrosion and damage by a radiation-cured acrylate (lacquer) layer, onto which a label is usually printed.197... 

Many of the finishes applied to other types of metal products can also be applied to zinc die castings, although some differences in formulation as well as occasional differences in method of application may be desirable. The types of finishes applicable to zinc die castings include mechanical finishes (buffed, polished, brushed, and tumbled) electrodeposited finishes (copper, nickel, chromium, brass, silver, and black nickel) chemical finishes (chromale, phosphate, molybdate and black nickel) and organic finishes (enamel, lacquer, paint and varnish, and plastic finishes). Electrodeposited coatings of virtually any metal capable of electrodeposition can be applied to zinc die castings.

As catalysts are generally insulating, it is necessary to metallise the surface to be examined and ensure that it is earthed in order to enable the flow of charge from the electron beam. A metallization layer (generally made of carbon) is deposited via thermal evaporation under vacuum (carbon has the advantage of not being particularly absorbent vis-a-vis the incident electrons and vis-ii-vis the characteristic X-rays). The electrical contact with the sample holder is created using a silver or carbon lacquer. 

Plastics can have a layer of metallic aluminium deposited on the surface by vacuum. Although aluminium is basically a bright silver, it may be lacquer tinted to give a wide range of metallic colours. Polyester, polystyrene, urea and phenol formaldehyde, and polypropylene are readily metallised. Other plastics need a pretreatment. 

In the case of mirrors silvered on the back, the silver layer is protected with a lacquer coating (shellac, varnish). The Ag precipitated on the glass side is removed with a cotton pad moistened with highly diluted nitric acid.
