Signal sequences length

PelZ is a hydrophilic protein of 420 amino acids with a short hydrophobic sequence at its N-terminal end which has Ae characteristics of the signal sequences of exported proteins. The signal peptide may be 24 amino acids long, which would corroborate wiA the usual length encountered in prokaryotes. The molecular cloning of the pelZ gene in an expression vector pT7-6 allowed for the specific 35S-cysteine-methionine raAo-labelling of PelZ in E. coli K38. We could detect, in crude extracts, the presence of a precursor and a mature form of PelZ. After cell fractionation, Ae mature form of PelZ could be localized in Ae periplasm of E. coli. So PelZ appears to be a protein exported by Ae Sec-dependent system of translocation.

A special kind of random noise, pseudo random noise, has the special property of not being really random. After a certain time interval, a sequence, the same pattern is repeated. The most suitable random input function used in CC is the Pseudo Random Binary Sequence (PRBS). The PRBS is a logical function, that has the combined properties of a true binary random signal and those of a reproducible deterministic signal. The PRBS generator is controlled by an internal clock a PRBS is considered with a sequence length N and a clock period t. It is very important to note that the estimation of the ACF, if computed over an integral number of sequences, is exactly equal to the ACF determined over an infinite time. 

Signal sequences usually occur at the amino terminus of polypeptides to be transported. These sequences vary in length from 10 to 40 amino acid residues and are generally characterized by the occurrence of a block of hydrophobic residues. The presence of hydrophobic residues reflects the fact that protein transport invariably involves the movement of proteins across lipid membranes. The hydrophobic residues both target the protein to the appropriate compartment and initiate penetration into the membrane.
