Sigma parameters

The sigma parameters may be established by three essentially independent procedures. One approach, that employed in Section IV, is to select one reaction as a standard and define the constants on the basis of the experimental observations for that process. The -parameters determined from data for the solvolysis reaction are summarized in Table 20 and Table 27. [Pg.129]

Values ofthe q, p, and Sigma parameters (Described in Chapter 3.6) in Table 2 have been acquired pursuant to the statistical evaluation based on opinions of thirty experts from this field of practice. The same also concerned the values of criteria weights, when the statistical processing was followed with the Saaty s method. The general process if such evaluation has been described in Chapters 3.7 and 3.8. [Pg.1843]

The fact that sigma parameters are inapplicable to reactions involving highly polarizable substituents , such as amino groups, and other related phenomena, inevitably necessitates improvements in correlating substituent effects, and the proposed structure-reactivity relations are still only partially successful. An excellent and critical examination of the various linear free-energy equations is found in a recent and valuable publication of Ritchie and Sager . [Pg.530]

Figures 3.12 and 3.13 show the kinetic parameter evaluation of (3.14.5.2) and (3.14.5.4), i.e. jjbm, qm, Kp, and K p. The inhibition phenomena were examined for the growth rate and the rate of CO uptake, respectively. Values of a0-, ar and sigma values into inductive and resonance components, to which reference will be made later in this chapter66. [Pg.497]

In petrochemical and bulk commodity chemical manufacture, real-time process control has been a fact of life for many years. There is considerable understanding of processes and control of process parameters is usually maintained within tight specifications to ensure statistical process control to within six sigma, or the occurrence of one defect in a million. This has been enabled through the use of real-time analytical capability that works with programmable logic circuits to make small changes to various process inputs and physical parameters as required. [Pg.238]

However, coal reactivity as measured by total conversion to liquids and gases becomes less dependent on coal parameters as processing severity increases. The effect of process temperature in the hot-rod reactor was studied using three coals of varying properties. These were Waterberg, Sigma and Landau. At 650°C the conversion yields of these coals were 89, 90 and 88 per cent of the coal (dmmf) respectively. Within experimental error the conversion yields had converged to the same value, whereas at 500°C the conversion yields were 85, 75 and 65 per cent respectively. [Pg.52]

The family of curves obtained, and presented in Figure 43-6, show that, not surprisingly, the controlling parameter of the family of curves is the standard deviation of the noise the maximum value of the multiplication factor occurs at a given fraction of the standard deviation of the energy readings. Successive approximations show that the maximum multiplier of approximately 1.28 occurs when If is approximately 2.11 times sigma, the standard deviation of AEr. [Pg.251]

Plasma LDL-bound antiradical parameters can be calculated as the difference between ACW/ACL/ACL0 for whole plasma and for HDL plasma as well. [Pg.519]

Greek letter, pronounced mu ), while its spread is characterized by the parameter a (Greek letter, pronounced sigma ), as shown in Figure 6.4. The parameters p and a are known as the mean and standard deviation of the population, respectively. [Pg.142]

The inhibited unimolecular decomposition of symmetrically di-substituted benzoyl peroxides into radicals also obeys the Hammett rho-sigma relationship. Unfortunately, no extensive activation parameter data are available. The effect of the substituent changes on the rates at the single temperature has been explained in terms of dipole-dipole repulsion in the peroxide.122... [Pg.62]
