Side shields

Eye protection must be worn at all times. Safety goggles are the ultimate safety glasses with side shields are acceptable prescription glasses are better than nothing, but should be worn with goggles hard and soft contact lenses are useless. 

All experiments must be carried out in a fume hood with the use of proper personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, a laboratory coat or apron, and the proper gloves for hands. 

Skin should be protected by gloves (preferably nitrile or butyl rubber), boots, and long-sleeve clothing. For the protection of eyes, safety glasses with side shields or splash goggles are the best choice when handling liquid chemicals. If spray equipment is used, proper respiratory protection may be needed. If any contact with the chemical occurs, the affected area has to be washed with soap and water immediately solvents should not be used. In extreme cases, proper medical help may be required.

Some form of eye protection is required at all times. Safety glasses with wide side shields are recommended, but normal eyeglasses with safety lenses may be permitted. 

Appropriate PPE must be worn during any operation. This includes safety glasses with side shields and a face shield in case chips or pieces fly off the machine. 

Eye protection can be provided by safety glasses with side shields, chemical goggles, full face respirators, and face shields with glasses or goggles. The type of eye protection required will depend on the hazard assessment of the specific applications. When there is danger of vapor, aerosol, or dust exposure, the eyes must be protected by chemical goggles at a minimum. 

Shielded safety glasses are comfortable, do not cause fogging or sweating, and give good eye protection in many situations. Safety glasses must have both brow and side shields. 

Ordinary prescription eyeglasses don t offer adequate protection. Laboratory safety glasses should be of plastic or tempered glass. If you do not have such glasses, wear goggles that afford protection from splashes and objects coming from the side as well as the front. If plastic safety glasses are permitted in your laboratory, they should have side shields (see Fig. 1).

If a chemical splashes into your eyes, it could do serious and sometimes permanent damage to your vision. The most common forms of eye protection include safety glasses (with sideshields), goggles, and face shields. Prescription eye glasses are acceptable provided that the lenses are impact resistant and they are equipped with side shields.

The shift margin is wider than that obtained for Karlqvist type head field in both directions. The elongation effect of dots to increase the shift margin in the cross track direction has also been verified for the multisurface head with side shields.
