Side filter centrifuge

Oxygen is rarely present in primary production environments below a few hundred meters. Oxygen may be present in make-up water if the water comes from sources open to the atmosphere (rivers, lakes, the ocean, or even some source shallow wells) or it may enter the system through vents in storage tanks, along the shafts of the suction side of centrifugal pumps or even through such equipment as diatomaceous earth filters. [Pg.181]

A Pyrex micro filter (Fig. XII, 2, 18) of 8 ml. capacity and furnished with a sintered glass disc is useful for the filtration of hot or boihng hquids. The long cylindrical tube reduces evaporation. The filter may be inserted into a test-tube with side arm (Fig. XII, 2, 13) and the filtrate collected in a centrifuge tube or semimicro test-tube receiver. [Pg.1108]

All baghouse designs use some form of fan, blower, or centrifugal compressor to provide the dirty-air flow required for proper operation. In most cases, these units are installed on the clean-side of the baghouse to draw the dirty air through the filter media. [Pg.779]

The reduction was done essentially as described previously (Robins, 1976). After several washings with 0.9% (w/v) sodium chloride, 0.05 M sodium phosphate, pH 7.4, at 4°C, the stirred demineralized root powder was reduced with 0.71 g sodium borohydride, an estimated one-twentieth of the collagen mass. After one hour, the solution was acidified (pH < 4, pH paper) to inactivate remaining borohydride. Thereafter, the pH was readjusted to 7.5. The solution was centrifuged and the pellets were hydrolyzed by heating for 24 hours at 112°C in 6 M HCl under N2 in bottles with Teflon-sided screw caps. The dark hydrolyzate was paper-filtered, evaporated under reduced pressure at 50°C, and mixed with 5 ml 0.1 M acetic acid. The hydrolyzate was assayed for hydroxyproline. [Pg.75]

The SpinTek technology involves membranes that are bonded to two sides of a disk. Multiple disks are mounted on a hollow shaft that rotates the membranes, and stationary turbulent promoters are mounted near the rotary membranes to create high shear and turbulence. Liquid waste is pumped into the system that hits the spinning disk and spreads across the membrane. Centrifugal force pulls the solid waste outward to the perimeter of the filter disks, where it is removed from the system. By pulling the solids outward, the centrifugal force keeps the filter clear so that the system can run continuously. [Pg.993]

Cleavage of peptide from the resin (with side-chain deprotection) peptides were cleaved by a mixture of TFA/H20/TIS (90 3 7 10mL-g-1 resin) for 1 h. The resin was filtered off and washed with TFA (3 x). The collected filtrates were taken to dryness in vacuo and the peptide was precipitated by ice-cold Et20. The precipitate was collected by centrifugation, resuspended in Et20 and collected by centrifugation twice. The precipitate was dried and lyophilized. [Pg.252]

Step 11. After the required time has lapsed, wash down the sides of the tube with 15 mL of 1 M HC1 to dissolve the SrC204. (If reprocessing the mounted Sr2C204 precipitate, carefully transfer the filter circle into a centrifuge tube that contains 15 mL of 1 M HC1. To achieve quantitative transfer, remove the filter after the precipitate is dissolved, wash filter with 5 mL water and add the wash to the solution.)... [Pg.107]
