Shot loads

Shotgun pellets (shot) are round metal balls available in various sizes, degrees of hardness, and materials depending on their intended use. An unusual cubic shot load is manufactured in 12,16, and 20 gauge and is claimed to give a faster opening pattern and reduced ricochet hazard than do round pellets. [Pg.75]

Less common and unusual projectiles, such as exploding bullets saboted subcaliber bullets flare loads wax, rubber, plastic, and wooden bullets frangible bullets tear gas bullets and canisters baton rounds flechette cartridges poisoned bullets multiple loads shot loads for pistols and revolvers and other special purpose projectile types, are known and are occasionally encountered in forensic casework. [Pg.78]

Pistol and revolver cartridges can be loaded with lead shot pellets, primarily for short range vermin control. The shot can be totally enclosed within the cartridge case and sealed with a wad, or the shot may be contained in a paper, cardboard, plastic, or wood sabot. A shot load/bullet combination is also manufactured in handgun calibers.95... [Pg.86]

Even a cursory glance shows that pellets in Hevi-Shot loads defy conventional wisdom that shot must be uniformly round for best ballistics and energy delivery. [Pg.55]

Where inhibitor chemical treatments are employed, they may be added daily by hand (shot-dosed, shock dosed) without any regard to product compatibility, FW needs, or fluctuations in boiler loading during the working day. The effectiveness of the program is therefore compromised under these conditions. [Pg.110]

It will be seen that the reflection of the shock wave from a free face is of considerable importance in the use of explosives. In practice, the most economic use of an explosive can only be achieved if it is flred at a suitable distance from such a free face. This distance is known as the burden of the shot. If, as in tunnelling, no free face exists naturally, the first shots fired are heavily loaded and arranged so as to produce such a free face for the later charges. [Pg.138]

The Germans then undertook the collection of Jews intended for extermination by having single houses, blocks of houses, or whple rows emptied, ordering everyone to concentrate on the street which was surrounded by soldiers. Anyone who went back into the house was immediately shot. Those who had been collected in the street were taken to the collecting point loaded on trucks, and taken to meet... [Pg.117]

Shot peening results in considerable increase of the operating and service life of constructions affected by dynamic loads. [Pg.15]

The defendant was convicted of carrying a loaded pistol within the limits of the city of Rutland, Vermont, in violation of an ordinance that provides that no person shall carry within the city any steel or brass knuckles, pistol, sling shot, stiletto, or weapon of similar character, nor carry any weapon concealed on his person, without permission of the mayor or chief of police, in writing. He appealed to the Supreme Court of Vermont. [Pg.55]
