Short-term residential

There are three main types of drug treatment programs available. They are outpatient drug-free treatment, long-term residential programs, and short-term residential programs. [Pg.72]

Detoxification is not really treatment. It simply is a process to get a person cleaned up. Detoxification clients are certainly referred to treatment but many go back out on the street following detoxification. So, if you remove detoxification from the treatment data, nearly two-thirds of actual treatment occurred in an ambulatory, outpatient setting which is the least intensive treatment nearly 13 percent in intensive outpatient, about 11 percent was short-term residential, and 11 percent was long-term residential. [Pg.130]

This vision of the treatment system in a new NDCS involves multiservice treatment facUities that can provide for the diverse needs of the public-sector treatment population. This means that a variety of levels of service would be available (long- and short-term residential, outpatient, and intensive outpatient), a multidisciplinary professional staff (e.g., addiction counselors, medical personnel, mental health professionals) would be provided, and a seamless method to provide ancillary services such as vocational training, financial management, and self-care skills would be in place. Services such as child care would be provided to remove barriers to treatment. There must be provisions for regular follow-up contact with treatment professionals and/or attendance at some kind of support group. AU of this requires an infusion of resources to upgrade the public-sector treatment system. [Pg.174]

Weddington, W.W., Brown, B.S., Haertzen, C.A. et al. Changes in mood, craving, and sleep during short-term abstinence reported by male cocaine addicts. A controlled, residential study. Arch. Gen. Psychiatry. 47 861, 1990. [Pg.67]

Most (62.5 percent) of public-sector treatment occurs in ambulatory settings. This means that the client doesn t spend 24 hours a day in the facifity. Over half of the admissions were ambulatory outpatient (1 to 2 hours, 1 to 2 days a week), nearly 11 percent were intensive outpatient (2 to 6 hours a day, 3 to 5 days a week), and almost 2 percent were detoxification (a period of abstinence from alcohol and other drugs to clear the system). Over 17 percent of admissions were in residential or rehabilitation facilities, where 24-hour care is provided. Of the admissions to residential or rehabilitation facihties, about half were short-term (less than 31 days) and about half were long-term (more than 31 days). One percent of the admissions were in a hospital. Over 20 percent of the admissions were in 24-hour service detoxification facihties. ... [Pg.130]

Erosion-control practices are required in many different circumstances. Agricultural practices for animal husbandry or to produce food crops can have significant adverse impacts on soil health if soil conservation techniques are not applied. Land development for residential housing or commercial and industrial facilities can have short-term erosion impacts during construction or long-term effects from rainwater or snowmelt on the sites. Recreational uses near lakes, streams, or oceans can affect the stability of the shoreline. Transportation systems may create unstable slopes with increased potential for landslides from cuts through hills for roads and rail lines. [Pg.731]
