In 1971, a short communication was published [54] by Kumada and co-workers reporting the formation of di- and polysilanes from dihydrosilanes by the action of a platinum complex. Also the Wilkinson catalyst (Ph3P)3RhCl promotes hydrosilation. If no alkenes are present, formation of chain silanes occurs. A thorough analysis of the product distribution shows a high preference for polymers (without a catalyst, disproportionation reactions of the silanes prevail). Cross experiments indicate the formation of a silylene complex as intermediate and in solution, free silylenes could also be trapped by Et3SiH [55, 56],... 

In some journals, notes are called short communications , an unfortunate practice, because they are not communications as that term is defined in the text.

The investigations described in this short communication were aimed at reactivity studies of equivalent silaethene derivatives in high temperature gas phase and low temperature solution reactions. 

Check experiments with pre-formed terminally-unsaturated polyisobutenes of low and high DP, and with saturated hydrocarbons, gave results supporting our conclusions that the AlX+2 reacts only with double bonds to give Al-C bonds. Thus the supposition 2 is now supported at least qualitatively by direct experimental results, but the exact quantitative correlations remain to be established. A Short Communication on this subject will be submitted shortly to Makromolecular Chemistry. 

The synthesis of [2.2]paracyclophane (2) and its identification by X-ray structural analysis were first reported in a short communication by Brown and Farthing 8> in 1949. A more detailed report on its molecular structure followed in 19534>. Further investigations by Lonsdale et al.5> at two different temperatures (93 and 291 °K) provided additional information about the thermal expansion and molecular vibrations in the crystal. A recent X-ray structural analysis > confirms and supplements Lonsdale s observations.

In their second short communication (1979) 55b>, Marshall reported that the ( )[10.10] isomer 61b was immune to epoxidation with m-chloroperbenzoic acid (quantitatively recovered after 3 weeks), while the (Z)[10.10] isomer was completely converted to epoxide within 3 min reaction time under the same condition. 

They also reported the sensitized photoisomerization of the cis[10.10] precursor 73 to a 50 50 mixture of (Z) and ( ) isomers, and this mixture was said to be converted to virtually pure ( )[10.10] isomer on acid treatment. They attributed this facile isomerization to the thermodynamical stability of the ( ) isomers over the (Z) isomers. However, their third short communication 55c) showed that the course of this acidic isomerization had not followed the route reported in their preceding paper. 

Although various aspects of the chemical differences between (Z)[m.n] precursors and [m.n]betweenanenes have been already presented in the preceding sections, this section will summarize these characteristics and add some data, taken mainly from Marshall and Black s short communication 55e).

Poly (4-methyl-1-pentene). Poly(4-methyl-l-pentene) has not yet drawn much attention in radiation chemistry. As far as we know, only one study on high energy-irradiated poly(4-methyl-l-pentene) has been published (25), and this was in the form of a short communication. The ESR spectrum at liquid nitrogen temperature was a sextet with a hyper-fine splitting constant of 23 gauss. The radicals producing this spectrum were supposed to have structure XXI—i.e., radicals formed by side-chain scission.
