Short-barreled weapons

The National Firearms Act of 1934 is passed. The law includes a variety of taxes on the manufacture, sale, and transfer of automatic weapons and certain short-barreled weapons, as well as requiring an FBI background check and the consent of local law enforcement officials for any purchase. The law does not apply to handguns. [Pg.101]

Pistol. A short-barreled weapon held and fired with one hand, designed as an easily carried weapon for individual use. Current designs provide for rapid firing of 6 or more shots before reloading (Ref 45f, p 2-5)... [Pg.749]

As was mentioned above G proplnts were unsuitable for use in short-barrel weapons. In order to obtain satisfactory results with such weapons (without resorting to NC-NG proplnts, contg flash reducing compds),... [Pg.431]

Small arms may be taken to mean weapons with a bore of less than 2-5 cm, whether the barrel is smooth or rifled. Compared with larger weapons, they have light bullets or shot and have relatively short barrels. Propellants used must therefore be fast burning and have small web thickness. The factors which determine design of powder depend also on the individual characteristics of the weapons. [Pg.184]

Gun rights advocates suggest that the same reference to the militia might imply that an individual would have the right to carry a weapon that if of a military nature (such as a fully automatic AK-47 or M-16 rifle). They also note that the defendant was not represented and that, therefore, the judges heard only one side of the case. (They also note in passing that short-barreled shotguns and carbines were in fact military weapons used by some cavalry units.)... [Pg.59]

The village of Morton Grove, Illinois, passes an ordinance that bans individual possession of a variety of weapons including handguns, automatic weapons, and short-barreled shotguns. A U.S. district court holds that the ordinance is constitutional. In 1983 the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, confirms the lower court decision in Quilici v. Morton Grove. The Supreme Court declines to hear the case. [Pg.104]

National Firearms Act (NFA) weapons Weapons regulated under Title 2 of the National Firearms Act, generally consisting of machine guns, fully automatic weapons, short-barreled shotguns, and certain accessories such as silencers. There are complex regulations regarding the transfer or modification of such weapons. [Pg.128]

The bull dog revolver is a pocket weapon w ith short barrel and large boro. [Pg.195]

The smallest common rifle is of 0-22 in (0-56 cm) calibre as used for target shooting. The weapons themselves have barrels which are neither particularly short, nor with any noteworthy restrictions on strength. On the other hand, the ammunition is of a particular type known as rimfire, as illustrated in Fig. 19.2. The name comes from the method of firing which is... [Pg.185]

All "G pro pints were slow-burning and were efficient only in weapons with long barrels, which allowed complete combstn of propints. They were unsuitable, even when used in smaii grains (flakes), in medium and small caliber howitzers and in mortars because their barrels were too short to allow complete combstn of proplnt while the shell was still in the barrel (P.efs 1 2 and R.ef 4, pp Ger 70 St Ger 71). For these weapons (as well as for the others), the Gudolpulver, developed in 1937 at the Dynamit AG laboratories, was quite suitable... [Pg.431]

The official name for the Welrod was Hand Firing Device Mark I, and it was also tried in 9rmn (0.3S4 inch) Parabellum and 0.4S inch (11.4mm) ACP. There were difficulties with both of these. The barrel was very short in the 9mm version, and inside the silencer was a perforated steel tube which dissipated the muzzle gases into the larger space of the silencer casing. The bullet was thus robbed of some propulsive force and left the other end of the silencer at below the speed of sound. The gas then followed it via a rubber disc, which slowed it down sufficiently to make sure that there was no noise. Despite the ingenuity the life of the silencers was short, and both the 9mm and the 0.45 inch ammo were too powerful for the little gun Ref B. Fitzsimons, Ed, The Illustrated Encyclopedia of 20th Century Weapons and Warfare , Vol 24, Purnell Reference Books, Milwaukee (1979), 2591... [Pg.370]
