Short barrel

Small arms may be taken to mean weapons with a bore of less than 2-5 cm, whether the barrel is smooth or rifled. Compared with larger weapons, they have light bullets or shot and have relatively short barrels. Propellants used must therefore be fast burning and have small web thickness. The factors which determine design of powder depend also on the individual characteristics of the weapons. 

Pistols and revolvers have very short barrels and therefore the time during which the propellant must bum is very limited. Burning pressures can, however, be higher and are often in the range 75-110 MPa. 

The solids conveying device at Dow was built from a standard 63.5 mm diameter extruder. It was built by replacing the standard barrel with a short barrel, providing an L/D ratio of 4.5. The feed hopper casing had an effective barrel length of 1.9 diameters and was water cooled. The feed opening was 1.5 diameters in length ... 

The melt-fed extruder is typically designed with a relatively short barrel length of 6 to 1L/D. Since the resin is molten when it enters the extruder, the motor size is relatively small compared to a plasticating extruder with the same barrel diameter. The extruders are typically starve-fed. That is, the extruder is operating at a screw speed that is higher than required, and thus the rate is not controlled by the screw speed, instead, the rate of the overall process is controlled by the feedstock addition rate to the compounding machine. 

The National Firearms Act of 1934 placed high taxes on the manufacturers, sellers, and purchasers of short-barreled guns such as sawed-off shotguns and carbines. 

Gun rights advocates suggest that the same reference to the militia might imply that an individual would have the right to carry a weapon that if of a military nature (such as a fully automatic AK-47 or M-16 rifle). They also note that the defendant was not represented and that, therefore, the judges heard only one side of the case. (They also note in passing that short-barreled shotguns and carbines were in fact military weapons used by some cavalry units.)... 

The National Firearms Act of 1934 is passed. The law includes a variety of taxes on the manufacture, sale, and transfer of automatic weapons and certain short-barreled weapons, as well as requiring an FBI background check and the consent of local law enforcement officials for any purchase. The law does not apply to handguns. 

The village of Morton Grove, Illinois, passes an ordinance that bans individual possession of a variety of weapons including handguns, automatic weapons, and short-barreled shotguns. A U.S. district court holds that the ordinance is constitutional. In 1983 the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, confirms the lower court decision in Quilici v. Morton Grove. The Supreme Court declines to hear the case. 

National Firearms Act (NFA) weapons Weapons regulated under Title 2 of the National Firearms Act, generally consisting of machine guns, fully automatic weapons, short-barreled shotguns, and certain accessories such as silencers. There are complex regulations regarding the transfer or modification of such weapons. 

Pistol. A short-barreled weapon held and fired with one hand, designed as an easily carried weapon for individual use. Current designs provide for rapid firing of 6 or more shots before reloading (Ref 45f, p 2-5)... 

As was mentioned above G proplnts were unsuitable for use in short-barrel weapons. In order to obtain satisfactory results with such weapons (without resorting to NC-NG proplnts, contg flash reducing compds),... 

Blunderbuss(Streubiichse in Ger, which means scattering or strewing gun). It is an obsolete gun or firearm having a short barrel of rather large diam(up to 3.5 ), provided with a belled muzzle. 

Similar in some respects to an Exploding BridgeWire Detonator, the Exploding Foil Initiator uses a high electrical current to vaporize a foil and accelerate a dielectric flyer down a short barrel (typically about 0.2 mm long). The kinetic energy of the flyer is sufficient to initiate high density secondary explosives such as HNS directly. Invented in 1965 by John Stroud of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. 

Use a punch to drive out the front sight blade from the barrel. Drill bleed holes as before but continue them to within one inch of the muzzle.Note It s not necessary to remove the aluminum outer barrel housing as in the short barreled version, although it may be done if desired. This will increase volume inside the silencer and better sound control. remove burrs from the Step 5...

The slag system combined with the short-barrelled rotary furnace, as shown in Fig. 15.3, has appealed over the years to the small secondary lead producer. Such an operation offers the following benefits.
