Shipping Department

The company places orders, which are mailed and forwarded to payment control for subsequent payment. When the shipping department receives goods, it forwards a notification to payment control. Invoices received are also forwarded. When an invoice is received for goods that were delivered, a payment is generated. 

Many of these ships depart for foreign ports without a cargo. For example, some of the European ships are sometimes routed to Singapore where they pick up palm oil for the trip back to Europe. However, these ships nearly always leave Western Australia with empty holds. Therefore, shipping charges out of WA for a chemical cargo would be only a fraction of that charged if a ship had to be provided for exclusive use (see Table B.9). 

The tank dome was designed for a maximum of 3 inches (0.75 kPa gauge) water pressure. However, an inattentive shipping department employee allowed liquid to rise over a foot into the dome (or about four times the rating) before the roof split and the liquid spilled. 

The Shipping Department loaded one less rail tank car than the operations foreman anticipated. Much more caustic soda remained in the tank than the operations supervisor expected when he wrote the tank clearing instructions. There were perhaps 90 tons of 73-percent caustic soda remaining when operational supervision believed only a small heel would be left. 

It was a two step process to prepare this tank for maintenance. The shipping crew had to empty it by loading tank cars. The operators were instructed to recover the remaining material and wash the vessel in the morning. The operations supervisor anticipated only a small amount of residual caustic soda would remain in the vessel after the Shipping Department loaded numerous tank cars to reduce the tank s inventory. 

Step 9. For shipments within the United States, the Market Rep. must complete the Sample Shipping Form and bring the form and the sample to the Shipping Department for shipment to the third-party. Step 11. The Shipping Department will prepare the shipment, either for domestic or international destination, in accordance with information received from the MRC. 

Results in these tables provide the safety manager with a method for describing the losses. For example, when examined by year, 2000 had the highest average losses with 4,360. By department, the shipping department had the highest average losses with 4,775. The production department may have a frequency problem with their accident involvement, which is indicated by the fact that 50% of the reported accidents were from this department.
