Severity index

Severity index is another factor of interest in international comparisons. It was calculated for each ASEAN country in 2003 as the percentage of fatalities per casualty (fatal, serious and shghtly injured). Table 4.3 shows that severity index varies with a low percentage of almost 0.85 in Thailand and a high percentage of 29.84 in Vietnam and 11.92 in Malaysia. The severity index decreases with the better medical facilities and rescue services (number of hospital beds per person or the number of physicians).

Instead of conversion, some producers prefer to use other identifications of severity, including coil outlet temperature, propylene to methane ratio, propylene to ethylene ratio, or cracking severity index (33). Of course, all these definitions are somewhat dependent on feed properties, and most also depend on the operating conditions. 

Once the cost of each piece of major equipment is known, it must be adjusted by construction cost indexes. Patients with melasma (Eig. 2.3) applied topical sunscreens (sun protection factor 15) and 10% glycolic acid lotion at night for 2 weeks. The psoriasis area and severity index is a uniform method to determine the extent of body surface area affected, along with the degree of erythema, induration, and scaling. Severity scores are rated as <12 (mild), 12 to 18 (moderate), and >18 (severe). 

Some of these measures are part of larger, semistructured interviews administered by the therapist. The most commonly used assessments in this category are a family of instruments developed mainly in the Veterans Administration (VA) hospital system. The first instrument in this family is known as the Addiction Severity Index (ASI McLellan et al., 1985). The ASI assesses for a wide variety of biographical data, so it has the advantage of potentially being used as part of an intake interview. The ASI asks about consequences in a wide variety of life domains, and determines recent and lifetime patterns of drug and alcohol use. The ASI also detects recent and lifetime occurrence of problems in these different life domains (e.g., work). Each domain can be scored for the severity of the problems based upon the responses of the client and the clinical judgment of the interviewer. The ASI can be administered by computer to provide for rapid interpretation of answers.
