Fig. 3.13. Kendrick mass defect versus nominal Kendrick mass for odd-mass ions ([M-H] ions). The compound classes (O, O2, O3S and O4S) and the different numbers of rings plus double bonds (Chap. 6.4.4) are separated vertically. Horizontally, the points are spaced by CH2 groups along a homologous series. [29] By courtesy of A. G. Marshall, NHFL, Tallahassee. Fig. 3.13. The coking attachment comprises a baseplate a coking cylinder and a ram. The coking cylinder has an inside diameter of 41 mm and a height of 75 mm. Wall thickness is 3 mm. The cylinder can be separated vertically into halves and has ten evenly spaced holes,... [Pg.314]

Figure 7.11b shows an EL airlift reactor, in schematic form. Here, the downcomer is a separate vertical tube that is usually smaller in diameter than the riser, and is connected to the riser by pipes at the top and bottom, thus forming a circuit for liquid circulation. The liquid entering the downcomer tube is almost completely degassed at the top. The liquid circulation rate can be controlled by a valve on the connecting pipe at the bottom. One advantage of the EL airlift reactor is that an efficient heat exchanger can easily be installed on the hquid loop hne. [Pg.126]

Liquid drums usually are placed horizontal and gas-liquid separators vertical, although reflux drums with gas as an overhead product commonly are horizontal. The length to diameter ratio is in the range 2.5-5.0, the smaller diameters at higher pressures and for liquid-liquid settling. A rough dependence on pressure is... [Pg.611]

Now, let us calculate the sum of plane angles of the polycycle P. We do this in two different ways (i) we first calculate the sum of angles in separate r-gons and then sum up over all r-gons and (ii) we first calculate the sum of angles at separate vertices and then sum up over qjl vertices, both boundary and internal. As a result, we obtain the equality ... [Pg.117]

Speciation schemes are separated vertically for each oxidation state. [Pg.346]

The combined application of dissolved ions, deuterium, and 180 supplied redundancy in the indications of flow in separated vertical channels, and the tritium provided the time scale or velocities. [Pg.229]

SIZING OF VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL SEPARATORS Vertical Separators... [Pg.259]

Viscosity is the resistance presented by a liquid to external forces subjecting it to flow. Laminar flow only is considered in polysaccharide rheology - as the name implies, the velocity in laminar flow increases monotonically with distance away from the edge of the vessel, pipe, etc. (in turbulent flow the flow rate will have local maxima and minima) (Figure 4.26). Imagine two hypothetical plates parallel to the direction of flow and the sides of the container, separated vertically by a distance 5x. One plate will be moving faster than the plate below it and will experience a force F because of viscous forces. This force will be in proportional to the area of the plane, so we can define a sheer stress of FjA, where A is the area of the plate. The force will bring about a difference of velocity 8v between two adjacent plates separated by 8x and we can define a sheer strain rate, usually denoted y, as 8v/8x, in the limit dv/dx (with dimensions of Kinetic or dynamic viscosity, t, is defined by eqn. (4.10) and... [Pg.182]

A very different type of coextrusion is used to produce opaque bottles with clear viewing stripes, so that the consumer can see the product level in the container (see Eig. 12.5). In this case, the separate layer, rather than extending around the container, occupies the whole wall thickness in a defined portion of the container. Typically, unpigmented resin is used, which is processed in a small satellite extruder and introduced into the die as a separate vertical stripe in the parison. Since the resin is the same type as the pigmented resin found in the rest of the bottle, no tie layer is needed. Such containers are used for motor oil, liquid laundry detergent, and other products. [Pg.311]

Rgure 12.13 Examples of linear-prediction spectra, (a) LP spectrum superimposed on the DFT. (b) LP spectra for analysis of order 4, 6, 8,10, 12,14,16 and 18. In reality the plots lie on top of one another, but each has been separated vertically for purposes of clarity. The bottom plot is from LP analysis of order 4 the top plot is for order 18. [Pg.364]
