UV-curable adhesives

Chem. Descrip. Cetyl stearyl methacrylate, MEHQ stabilizer Uses Acrylic for mf of polymers used as oil additives, vise, index improvers, and pour pt. depressanis internal plasticizer for adhesives, UV-curable resins, and coatings... [Pg.319]

Esters of methacrylic acid (also called methacrylates) are most commonly used for adhesives. This is slightly different from UV curable coatings, where acrylic esters are generally preferred. These differ by a methyl group as in Scheme 1. [Pg.829]

Traditionally, UV curable polymers have been utilized as coatings for wood and vinyl floors, but their applications have increased dramatically over the last twenty years to encompass many diverse areas, including optical fiber coatings (7), adhesives (2), disc replications (3-5), and microelectronics (6). This widespread use of UV cross-linked systems is attributed to their rapid, energy efficient curing and their solvent free, one piece formulations. Typically, UV curable systems require only a small fraction of the power normally utilized in thermally cured systems and their solvent free nature offers an environmentally safer alternative. [Pg.150]

There are several interesting applications reported in the literature, such as insulated wire and cable, UV cross-linking of drawn fibers, and tapes from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. Semi-interpenetrating networks (IPNs) from acrylates and polyurethanes are suitable as UV curable adhesives with high elasticity, good impact resistance, and excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates. ... [Pg.80]

UV curable pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are based on two types of UV curable maferials ... [Pg.148]

UV curable adhesives have been used in electronics and electrical manufacturing operations for many years. There are many uses, such as bonding of coils, bonding of loudspeaker membranes, bonding and sealing of wires in ducfs, bonding of liquid crystal displays, and bonding of membrane swifches. ... [Pg.152]

In the medical field, UV curable adhesives are used in fhe assembly of medical devices, such as syringes, valves, manifolds for filtering equipmenf, and arteriographs. In these applications, many dissimilar substrates, such as stainless steel, aluminum, glass, polycarbonate, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), PVC, and other thermoplastics, are bonded. ... [Pg.152]

Silicone release liners are used as a nonadhering surface to which adhesive materials, such as, for example, pressure-sensitive adhesives, can be laminated. UV curable release coatings are based on poly(dimethylsiloxane) oligomers functionalized with acrylate or epoxy groups and are mostly coated onto papers or thin films. [Pg.152]

The development work also yielded UV curable adhesives for aluminum to aluminum, graphite to aluminum, and graphite to graphite. [Pg.208]

Bonding of Si to glass was also achieved using UV-curable optical adhesives. Benzocyclobutene has been used to bond Si and Pyrex [94-99,942]. [Pg.6]

Some of the uv curable adhesives contain a combination of uv and infrared (ir) initiators to take advantage of the ir output that many uv lamps generate. At times a photoactive crosslinking agent is used to improve cohesive strength without affecting tack and peel. [Pg.263]
