Self-adjusting process conditions

In comparison with other oxo processes the procedure is much simpler and many steps in the original process are superfluous (cf. Section 5) [57]. The actual oxo catalyst is simply made within the oxo unit by reacting suitable Rh salts with TPPTS of appropriate quality without any additional preformation step. The reaction system is self-adjusting the on-stream factor of the whole system is > 98%. Typical reaction conditions and performances on a 14-year average are given in [56, 57]. 

Self-tuning temperature controllers are also available in extrusion [49]. They have become commercially available since around 1982. These controllers are microprocessor-based they are programmed to detect certain process conditions and adjust the controller parameters when necessary. These adjustments are made internally by the controller itself without the help of an operator. 

An important goal of process control is therefore, to ensure that state variables that are not self-regulating (such as the level in the tank) stay within certain limits. Most process conditions that are characterized by temperatures and pressures are also state variables. In the latter case, however, these variables are often self-regulating, i.e. when a disturbance acts upon the process, the state variables assume new steady-state values. State variables describe the dynamic behavior of the process. The values the state variables assume are a result of the adjustable variables (controls) and the disturbance variables. The irony is that early and effective treatment intervention in a disease process often lessens its long-term sequelae. Unrecognized or ineffectively treated childhood and adolescent psychiatric conditions are likely to have profound and lifelong effects on the patient s psychosocial development.
