The synthesis of silver nanocubes by the reduction of Ag with glucose in the presence of CTAB has also been reported, see Figure 11.29 [85]. In this synthesis there is no separate seed preparation step. The Ag combines with the Bf of the CTAB to produce AgBr which maintains a low concentration of Ag in solution. During the reaction, single crystal silver seed nanoparticles are formed. The CTAB stabilizes the less stable 100 faces of these, as PVP does in the polyol process, and so nanocubes are the preferred final morphology. [Pg.324]

Figure 4.4 shows the different stages in seed preparation and a classical chemical refining process. The general methods employed to produce edible oils suitable for human consumption consist of (a) seed preparation, (b) extraction, (c) degumming, (d) neutralization, (e) bleaching, (f) deodorization, (g) hydrogenation, and sometimes winterization. [Pg.105]

Seed preparation The primary seed fermentation is performed using shaking-flask culture techniques. Once grown, the suspension is then transferred to further seed stages. The purpose of the seed preparation is to generate enough inoculums for the production of a fermenter. [Pg.369]

Because of special safety considerations, the solvent extraction process is constructed in a separate facility from the seed preparation process. The solvent extraction process consists of five closely interrelated unit processes solvent extraction, meal desolventizing, meal drying and cooling, miscella distillation, and solvent recovery. [Pg.2487]

The prepared oleaginous material is conveyed from the seed preparation process to the solvent extraction process and enters the solvent extractor. The solvent... [Pg.2487]

The solvent extraction process consists of the unit operations of solvent extraction, meal desolventizing, meal drying and cooling, miscella distillation, and solvent recovery. These unit operations are highly interrelated, primarily because of various heat recovery methods that link the operations together. A process upset in any one of the unit operations will typically cause abnormal operation in the others. The key to efficient solvent extraction operation is process consistency. Consistency of seed preparation, consistency of rate, and consistency of solvent extraction operating parameters are all important factors in operating a safe, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective solvent extraction process for oil extraction. [Pg.2509]

The first issue with regard to growth is to determine if the compound in question has potential for growth. Growth potential may be very difficult to determine definitively because of (1) large dependence on impurities and (2) lack of patience. Once estabhshed, growth can be used for initial seed preparation. Once seed is grown, all crystallizations are started with proper seeds. [Pg.215]

The seeds for solid-state fermentation are prepared either by submerged culture or solid-state culture. Bran is an excellent medium for solid seed preparation. After the spores have matured, the solid seeds are harvested and mixed with the pre-sterilized medium for solid-state fermentation. The ratio between solid seeds and medium is around 1 20-50. [Pg.75]
