All synthesis experiments were carried out in rotating stainless steel autoclaves with an approximate volume of 250 cm3. After each experiment, the autoclaves were cleaned with 40 wt.-% HF to minimize seeding effects by residual crystallization products. The preparation of the synthesis mixture was as follows. Fumed silica with a surface area of ca. 200 m /g (CAB-O-SIL M-5) was mixed with about 90 % of the total amount of distilled water. To this mixture were added subsequently under stirring NaOH pellets (Merck, p.a.), pyrrolidine (Fluka, p.a.) as structure directing agent, AHNOgJj ... [Pg.561]

Scratching substrates with diamond powder or other abrasive materials significantly enhances surface nucleation density and rate compared to untreated substrates.t hi70][i79] different suggestions have been made to account for the mechanisms of the nucleation enhancement by scratching (Fig. 2). The first of these is the seeding effect, i.e., diamond, DLC,... [Pg.96]

Studies on the mechanism of zeolite crystallization have received extensive attention from many investigators (4, 16, 22, 24, 29, 30, 33, 37, 39). However, the main questions of the mechanism of crystallization referring to kinetics, such as the autocatalysis of the crystallization process, alkalinity effect on the rate of crystallization, the nature of the induction period, and seeding effects, have been insufficiently studied. The question of the role of solid and liquid phases in the formation of zeolite crystals in the heterogenous aluminosilicate systems also is still being discussed (16,22,25, 30,31,37,39). [Pg.27]

Seeding Effects. Crystallization of some zeolites (scolecite, natrolite) proceeds only in the presence of seeds (26, 36). The mechanism of seeding is insufficiently clear in such cases. [Pg.42]

The base-line drawing procedure is the main reason for the relative low repeatability of the Hf-value determination. The self-seeding effect, clearly influencing the Tc-value, makes calculation of an average Tc-value meaningless. The He-, Tm2-and Hf2-values are hardly influenced, thus ... [Pg.16]

Schaefer (1966) reported the activation of large numbers of ice nuclei on the addition of trace levels of iodine vapor to car exhaust (containing lead oxide nanoparticles) at temperatures from —3 to —20°C in the laboratory. The formation of lead iodide was concluded to have a seeding effect similar to that of silver iodide particles (Vonnegut, 1947), which had been used in an attempt to artificially modify cloud properties and enhance precipitation. Consequendy this method was proposed as a means to remove harmful aerosol formed in polluted urban areas, and also in artificial weather modification. However, the development of unleaded fuels, for which no similar ice nucleating ability was shown to occur in the presence of iodine (Hogan, 1967), provided a better long-term solution to this problem. [Pg.43]
