Sector-Specific Actions

Legislation should be enforced. In the case of violations, legislation provides ample opportunities to correct and to sanction, based on common law, employment law, civil law, and/or criminal law. One should realise, however, that sector-specific situations require sector-specific actions and measures in order to correct and sanction sensibly and effectively. 

These challenges cannot be met only by any individual enterprise but require a concentrated effort of specific actions and coordination of initiatives (Fitz and Schiefer, 2008). FCM aims at providing support for the identification and realization of "best" concepts for such actions and coordination needs. This support provides enterprises with the means for improving their own and the sector s competitiveness, sustainability, and responsibility toward the expectations of its customers and the society (Ondersteijn et ah, 2006). 

Take action to reduce these risks. The guidance includes a number of useful tables giving non-sector specific examples of factors relating to the design of shift work schedules, the physical environment and management issues such as supervision. 

It also needs to promote demand which requires a more targeted approach the LMI is the European policy for six sectors that are supported by specific actions to lower barriers in order to bring new products or services onto the market [4],... 

Looking around the corner, there are a number of sustainability issues that could be financially material in the chemical sector. The research on body burden, or what trace (and otherwise) substances exist in humans as a result of environmental exposure is perhaps the most troubling in that little is known about how this occurs, especially among populations that are not in proximity to known sources. Look for the level of concern on this issue to rise and for potential societal and policy push-back fuelled by the uncertainty. Body burden could serve as a gateway issue to a wide range of actions by civil society on a whole host of specific substances and pathways of exposure. In particular, results that pertain to body burden in children have a huge emotional resonance beyond the scope of most issues of pollution. ... 

A specific correction was introduced for the auxiliary services of the producers in the public energy sub-sector, whose purpose is to partly reduce the risk of an inadequate number of allowances, caused by the provision of auxiliary services and an increase in power electricity production. A maximum of 200,000 allowances, determined as the number of MWh of auxiliary services related to an increase in the output (positive regulation, dispatching reserve, quick start) provided in 2001 (data provided by CEPS a.s., electricity network provider) multiplied by a coefficient of 0.6 is added to the basic allocation. Because this adjustment is made inside the sector (no allowances were deducted or added for such purpose), adding these auxiliary services allowances to the basic allocation leads to an increase of the allowances to be allocated for that sector, and the allocations had to be reweighted back to the original number of allowances before this correction. Only three companies received this correction. Any bonuses for early action, CHP and CZT corrections were then added to this reweighted basic allocation,... 

It is important that policies for organic farming take the dynamic nature of the sector into account and make sure that there is a balanced application of supply/push and demand/pull measures by combining the key areas mentioned above in a manner adapted to the specific circumstances. In order to facilitate this it is recommended that member states develop action plans for organic farming which will then require periodic revision. It would be desirable if the EU could support the development of such action plans in the candidate countries.
