Auxiliary Services

It is necessary to include the full cost of auxiliary services, e.g. steam, water and electricity supply and distribution, roads, buildings, communications, etc., in the capital cost estimate for a new plant. If a chemical plant is to be constructed on an existing complex, then a proportion of the cost of existing services (based upon the estimated consumption) is usually charged. A very approximate estimate of the cost of auxiliaiy services can be obtained by taking 20-25% of the total installed (new) plant cost. However, in some situations a figure of 40-70% may be more appropriate. It must be emphasised that a more accurate estimate should be obtained during the preparation of the feasibility study.

Through the tap-offs of the bus, the unit auxiliary transformers (UATs) are connected to feed the station auxiliary services. For more clarity we have taken out the portion of the tap-offs from Figure 13.21 and redrawn it in Figure 13.18 to illustrate the above system and its interconnections. The tap-offs are now subject to the cumulative inOuence of the two supply sources. In the event of a fault on this section, both the sources would feed the same and the fault current through the tap-offs would add up. The tap-offs should thus be designed for the cumulative effect of both fault levels. For the sake of an easy reference, Table 13.8 suggests a few typical values of fault currents, worked out on the basis of data considered for the G and GT. One such example is also worked out in Example 13.3.

A separate control wireway may also run through the same busbar chamber, with suitable segregation or shrouding between the main bus and the control bus. This arrangement can be seen in Figures 13.2 and 13.7. The control bus system may be required for one or more auxiliary supplies for the following auxiliary services. 

Used to present the heat and material balance of a process. This may be in broad block form with specific key points delineated, or in more detailed form identifying essentially every flow, temperature and pressure for each basic piece of process equipment or processing step. This may and usually does include auxiliary services to the process, such as steam, water, air, fuel gas, refrigeration, circulating oil, etc. This type of sheet is not necessarily distributed to the same groups as would receive and need the piping flowsheet described next, because it may contain detailed confidential process data.

Recently, approaches to operate wave bioreactors in perfusion mode have been proposed. This turns this type of bioreactor into an attractive variant when there is a need for rapidly establishing a process, on a relatively small scale, and there are no robust facilities for the supply of auxiliary services. 

The complex production facilities required for the cultivation of animal cells, with sophisticated auxiliary services that should avoid contamination and toxicity in the cultures, and fitted with highly automated and valida-table equipment, are the reasons why the main cost component of these processes is associated with equipment and other technical components (Petrides, 2000). 

A specific correction was introduced for the auxiliary services of the producers in the public energy sub-sector, whose purpose is to partly reduce the risk of an inadequate number of allowances, caused by the provision of auxiliary services and an increase in power electricity production. A maximum of 200,000 allowances, determined as the number of MWh of auxiliary services related to an increase in the output (positive regulation, dispatching reserve, quick start) provided in 2001 (data provided by CEPS a.s., electricity network provider) multiplied by a coefficient of 0.6 is added to the basic allocation. Because this adjustment is made inside the sector (no allowances were deducted or added for such purpose), adding these auxiliary services allowances to the basic allocation leads to an increase of the allowances to be allocated for that sector, and the allocations had to be reweighted back to the original number of allowances before this correction. Only three companies received this correction. Any bonuses for early action, CHP and CZT corrections were then added to this reweighted basic allocation,...

During the inspection, a routine examination is also made for the observance of good manufacturing practice in the engineering-development, production, and inspection process, including the storeroom and auxiliary services. 

A manual cable -locking device is provided for use during removal of the ONCA from its penetration. When the control rods are completely withdrawn from the core, the cable -locking device is manually actuated to ensure that the control rods will not accidentally drop while the ONCA is moved with the auxiliary service cask. 

Auxiliary services include a new electrical maintenance workshop, the upgrading of the existing general storehouse for spare parts and raw materials, and new changing rooms for staff and general washroom facilities. 

The well water tem for K-Reactor provided water for the auxiliary services, mainly in Buildings 105-K and 184-K, and replaced the original river wat suppfy to the water treatment plant (Building 183-2K). The well water system continues to provide a source of water for service clarified water, filtered water, fire water, and domestic water. 

Figure 16.21 provides a block diagram of a typical AM IBOC installation. The conversion of an analog station requires the addition of an exciter, an auxiliary service unit (ASU), and appropriate audio processing.

Auxiliary services that support equipment forming part of a system important to safety shall be considered part of that system and shall be classified accordingly. Their rehability, ledundancy, diversity and independence and the provision of features for isolation and for testing of functional capability shall be commensurate with the reliabihty of the system that is supported. Auxihaiy services necessary to maintain the plant in a safe state may include the supply of electricity, cooling water and compressed air or other gases, and means of lubrication.
