Seasonal Responses to Predator Faecal Odours in Australian Native Rodents Vary Between Species... [Pg.379]

The seasonal response to the faeces varied between the prey species. In the two smaller species, the late wet season was when they showed most avoidance. At this time, even fox and Tasmanian devil faeces (unfamiliar predators) were avoided, supporting the idea of common chemical triggers in carnivore faeces (Dickman and Doncaster 1984). In U. caudimaculatus, response to familiar predators appeared stronger than to unfamiliar predators quoll and dingo faeces were always avoided. [Pg.385]

In some species, male variation in response to component ratio offset from the natural blend is somewhat modulated by ambient temperature (Linn et al, 1988). The response specificity of G. molesta and P. gossypiella to off-ratios of pheromone acetate components in a wind tunnel assay was narrower at 20 °C than at 26 °C. In the field, sexual activity in both species occurs at both of these temperatures, depending on time of year. Some field evidence of this phenomenon with P gossypiella appears in the distribution of catch in traps baited with a range of ratios measured at various times of the flight season. Flint et al. (1977) found an evidently narrower response breadth early in the season (when temperatures were cool) compared with late-season responses. In the omnivorous leafroller Platynota stultana, the optimum ratio of its two components for attraction seems to shift with temperature in the... [Pg.306]

Application of Isotopic Methods to Non-Steady-State Groundwater-Lake Systems. Isotopic compositions of lakes whose hydraulic-residence times are relatively short (about 2 years or less) vary seasonally (32). Seasonal response occurs whenever a significant mass of water of a different isotopic composition is either added to or removed from the lake. Seasonal variations in P, E, G, 8P, 8a, and 8 are the principal driving forces behind observed variations in 8j for isotopically non-steady-state systems. In northern Wisconsin, many lakes are isotopically non-steady-state. [Pg.90]

Particle-bound Hg concentrations of sediment trap material exhibited strong seasonal response and accounted for the differences between the Hg flux and mass and carbon fluxes late in the summer. Particle-bound HgT content in spring and early summer was below 200 ng/g, but during late summer stratification it reached levels between 200 and 400 ng/g. Levels were highest following breakdown of thermal stratification and remained high throughout the fall (>350 ng/g). The elevated HgT levels after overturn most likely represented a shift from dissolved to particle-bound Hg. [Pg.441]

Variety. Frequently extreme differences are found in the response of species or varieties to irradiation. Irradiated Southland peaches tend to become somewhat mealy following irradiation, but the Loring and Dixieland varieties do not. Valencia oranges show considerable peel injury from irradiation but not Pineapple oranges. However, this could be more of a seasonal response than a varietal difference. [Pg.159]

This journey starts with outside-in thinking and focuses on identifying the market signals and translating them into the drivers of demand. Market-driven forecasts focus on accurately predicting what customers will buy. This is in sharp contrast with the traditional demand processes that determine what companies will manufacture or ship. The input signals are from the market. There are many possible inputs weather, events, seasonal response, social sentiment, or competitive pressures. [Pg.110]

There would also be a seasonal response to thermo- and hydroperiod insofar as there were predictable occurrences in a particular environment. [Pg.107]
