Sealing point

Mechanical Face Seals This type of seal forms a running seal between flat precision-finished surfaces. It is an excellent seal against leakages. The seahng surfaces are planes perpendicular to the rotating shaft, and the forces that hold the contact faces are parallel to the shaft axis. For a seal to function properly, there are four sealing points ... [Pg.940]

Seal point The point at which a weeping condition changes to raining. [Pg.176]

It is important to consider thermal effects in the design of the grid-to-shell seal. Bypassing of the grid at the seal point is a common problem caused by situations such as uneven expansion of metal and ceramic parts, a cold plenum and hot solids in contact with the grid plate at the same time, and start-up and shutdown scenarios. When the atmosphere in the bed is sufficiently benign, a sparger-type... [Pg.9]

Dumping As gas velocity is lowered below the weep point, the fraction of liquid weeping increases until all the liquid fed to the tray weeps through the holes and none reaches the downcomer. This is the dump point, or the seal point. The dump point is well below the range of acceptable operation of distillation trays. Below the dump point, tray efficiency is slashed, and mass transfer is extremely poor. Operation below the dump point can be accompanied by severe hydraulic instability due to unsealing of downcomers. [Pg.46]

The remaining fur fiber is then sheared with revolving blades to a velvety texture. Nutria, some rabbit, and muskrat may also be sheared to imitate seal. Pointing , a process of gluing either badger or monkey guard hair into furs, adds... [Pg.449]

An apparatus for reaction of solutions of alkali metals in NHg with solid materials (G. Brauer and V. Stein D.0]) is shown in Fig. 72. The alkali metal is sealed in a small ampoule which is provided with a small hook at one end. The seal point is broken off the ampoule is suspended by the hook from a thin wire and introduced into the apparatus. The ampoule contents are melted in a stream of Ng and flow to B. Then NHg is condensed in B. The solid is already in A, and both substances are combined by tipping the apparatus. After evaporation of the NHg the reaction product is transferred to analysis flasks, Mark capillaries, or to containers such as shown in Fig. 54a. From these it can be further transferred, as required. [Pg.89]

Formula weight 124.78. Cubic crystals. The gas decomposes readily, evolving heat (the decomposition may become explosive). Since a flame may not be brought near the SbHg, the storage flask may be torch-sealed only ifthe contents are frozen at liquid Ng temperature or a long capillary is interposed between the seal point and the flask. M.p. —91°C, b.p. —17°C, d (—17°C) 2.2. Slowly decomposes into the elements just above the b.p. Extremely toxic. Five volumes of HgO dissolve one volume of SbHg. Cubic crystals. [Pg.608]

Figure 18.8 shows the flow chart of the hollow fiber membrane system for oxygen production with the vacuum operating mode. The membrane module is placed under a vertically positioned tubular furnace with the sealing points kept out of the bottom inlet of the furnace tube. An oil-free vacuum pump is connected to the lumen of the fibers to yield a negative pressure and to collect the oxygen product. [Pg.269]
