Gas compressors operating on highly toxic or flammable gases may require redundant systems to assure no leakages. In many applications, such as refrigeration gas, buffer seals are required with the liquid-buffered face seal. A popular technique is to use a buffered labyrinth seal with a liquid seal.

TPEs can be bonded to other materials by adhesive, heat bonding, electromagnetic filling, radio frequency, heat-sealing lamination, friction and spin welding, and ultrasonic welding. For TPUs, the most widely used techniques are radio frequencies, and ultrasonic and hot stamping. A few typical applications include football bladders, valves, and conveyer belts. 

Applications The determination and quantification of oligomers from PET has been carried out using various techniques Soxhlet extraction followed by gravimetric analysis with identification by HPLC-DAD, selective precipitation of the polymer (from a trifluoroacetic acid solution), and chloroform extraction under pressure in a sealed Parr bomb [112]. Heating of a 1 g sample in 20 mL chloroform at 100 °C for 2h allows a precision of 5 %. 

Salmona et al. [66] used El and CIMS to identify benzothiazole derivatives leached into injections by rubber plunger seals from disposable syringes. One of the compounds was used as a rubber vulcanisation accelerator, and four others were formed during syringe sterilisation with ethylene oxide. Applications of hyphenated chemical impact mass-spectrometric techniques are described elsewhere GC-MS (Section 7.3.1.2), for polar and nonpolar volatile organics, SFC-MS (Section 13.2.2) and TLC-MS (Section 7.3.5.4). 

Recovery of process chemicals in coil coating plants is applicable to chromating baths and sealing rinses. Recovery techniques currently in use include ion exchange and electrochemical chromium regeneration.8-9... 

The earliest applications for quantitative analysis of liquid samples and solid preparations entailed sample dissolution in an appropriate solvent. A number of moisture determinations in APIs and pharmaceutical preparations based on both reflectance and transmission measurements have been reported. Their results are comparable to those of the KF method. The high sensitivity provided by the NIR technique has fostered its use in the determination of moisture in freeze-dried pharmaceuticals. ° The noninvasive nature of NIR has been exploited in determination of moisture in sealed glass vials. Initially devised to measure interactions in single soap films (air/water/air) [8], the TFB technique has been progressively improved and its application has been broadened to emulsion films (oil/water/oil) [ 12] and asymmetric films (air/water/oil or air/water/solid) [13,14].
