Machine screws

Injection Molding. Any standard design plunger or reciprocating screw injection machine can be used for PEA 340, although a reciprocating screw machine is preferred (32). Slow injection into mold cavities avoids surface or internal melt fracture, and control of ram speed is important at low... [Pg.376]

Cladding may be less expensive than selective electro deposition when coatings greater than 1 p.m of a noble metal are required, but may be more expensive than electro deposition for thinner coatings. Selective techniques are most easily used for sheet metal substrates that are to be machine stamped and formed into contacts. Clad noble metals are considerably more ductile (and less hard) than comparable electro deposits and, therefore, are better suited to forming operations. Contacts that are made into separate parts from rod by screw machining are usually coated on all exposed surfaces by barrel electroplating. [Pg.31]

Horizontal reciprocating screw machines (Fig. 20). Vertical screw/ram machines (Fig. 21). [Pg.460]

In recent years, the trend has been toward an increasing use of the reciprocating screw machines. One of the most common reasons given for the change is that the first in-last out principle applies for screw/ram... [Pg.460]

To ensure consistency, the two critical areas for control specific to injection molding are shot size control and temperature control on the injection system, i.e., screw portion for the reciprocating screw machines, and both the screw and ram sections for the screw/ram machines. As mentioned previously, for temperature and cure control, the use of microprocessor controls has significantly improved the performance of injection molding machines, including control of the shot size. [Pg.461]

Twin screw versions of dump extruders are available which are claimed to overcome some of the problems of single screw machines, i.e., high energy input, sticking and accelerated wear. [Pg.180]

Simple ram machines are cheaper than screw machines having equivalent shot volumes. Although the simple ram injection moulding machine was once quite widely used it was generally obsolescent by 1977. Plasticisation by screw is quicker and more controllable than by heat conduction in simple ram machines. A higher and more uniform compound temperature and thus a more uniform viscosity is achieved. [Pg.189]

The advantage of screw machines is that work done by the screw heats and plasticises the mix, under conditions which can be carefully regulated by jacket temperature, screw speed and back pressure. A natural rubber mix leaves the extruder section of the machine 20-30 °C higher than the jacket control temperature. [Pg.189]

Screw machines need to be subdivided and carefully defined because of some confusion in terminology. The simplest of the screw machines is the fixed screw machine which extrudes directly into the mould. More importantly screw machines can be subdivided into ... [Pg.189]

Screw machines with a separate ram combine the advantages of both screw and simple ram machines. [Pg.190]

The melting process is the primary mode for mixing in single-screw machines. This concept can be observed from Maddock solidification experiments. Melting as a method for mixing is presented in Section 8.4. [Pg.190]

Plasticating single-screw extruders will typical range in size from 15 mm up to 250 mm in diameter. Larger diameter plasticating machines are very rare and were likely built years ago. Plasticating rates above about 4000 kg/h are more economically processed using twin-screw machines. [Pg.239]

In this representation, the throughput number Q is standardized by the intercept Ai. It is the numerical value of Q where the screw machine is conveying without pressure formation. With this kinematic flow parameter, h = QlAi, the state of flow of a screw machine can be outlined more distinctly. [Pg.41]

In the other two ranges, the gear-type rotary pump has to enter into action. If the pump pushes the liquid in the same direction as the screw, the range A > 1 results. The conveying action of the screw machine is run over by the conveying action of the pump. In this operation, an excellent heat transfer between the housing and the liquid can be obtained (18). [Pg.41]
