Injection screw reciprocating

Injection Molding. Any standard design plunger or reciprocating screw injection machine can be used for PEA 340, although a reciprocating screw machine is preferred (32). Slow injection into mold cavities avoids surface or internal melt fracture, and control of ram speed is important at low... [Pg.376]

There are a number of important features in reciprocating screw injection moulding machines and these will now be considered in turn. [Pg.282]

William Willert filed a patent on the in-line, now more commonly known as the reciprocating screw injection molding machine in 1952. In 1953 Reed Prentice Corp. was the first to use Willert s invention, building a 600-ton machine. The patent was issued in 1956. By the end of the decade almost all the injection molding machines being built were of the reciprocating screw type. [Pg.3]

Spiral Mold Test. Processing stabilities were also determined by the spiral mold test (5). The resins were injection molded in a 3-ounce reciprocating screw injection molder at 25°F. (14°C.) intervals from 425° (219°C.) to 600°F. (316°C.) using a 55-inch spiral mold under the following conditions mold temperature, 80°F. injection pressure, 16,000... [Pg.249]

Usual method of molding BMC is by compression molding. BMCs can also be injection molded in much the same way as other plastic compounds using ram, ram-screw, and, for certain BMC mixes, conventional reciprocating screw injection molding techniques (Chapter 4). [Pg.473]

Injection molding is a cyclic discontinuous process used to form three-dimensional plastic parts (25. 26). Both thermoplastics and thermosets are injection molded. The process is shown schematically in Figure 11 for a reciprocating screw injection molder. This type of a machine has a screw rotating in a barrel similar to an extruder. However, here the melt flow is discontinuous and controlled via a check valve at the tip of the screw. Material is melted in the extruder, and the melt is accumulated in front of the screw tip until sufficient melt is at hand to fill the mold cavity (cavities). [Pg.596]

In reciprocating-screw injection molding, the mbber compound is heated by the retractable (reciprocating) screw, in a position where its front end is near the nozzle. Then, the screw retracts as it winds itself ( unscrews ) out, away from the nozzle and the warm plasticated mbber, which is now up against the nozzle. The screw is then moved forward (toward the mold) and, in so doing, it injects the mbber into the mold. [Pg.295]

The main component of the reciprocating screw injection molding machine. It may have various sizes, lengths, and compression ratios. It is used to feed, compress, melt, and meter the resin for injecting into the mold cavity. Basically divided into 3 major sections feed section, deep screw depths to convey the resin into the next screw s section transition section, gradually decreasing screw depths when resin is compressed, forced against the barrel s surface, and melts and... [Pg.2259]
