Gums and Resins Most gums and resins, natural or artificial, when used in the paint, varnish, or plastic industries, are not ground very fine, and hammer or cage mills will produce a suitable product. Roll crushers will often give a sufficiently fine product. Ring mills are sometimes used. 

Illustrations with organic structural formulae have been used widely. In depicting sugar rings. Mills formulae have been used if the conformation is not known with confidence, otherwise conformational structures are drawn. Ribbon diagrams of various carbohydrate-active proteins with known structures are available from protein databases. Their reproduction in this book would have increased its cost and, at a time when all beginning researchers have Web access, only marginally increased its usefulness. The third project involved replacing the equipment in the old casting dross plant. A new air swept ball mill designed by Korea Zinc was installed in place of the vertical ring mill. Dross from the main melting furnace is taken to the dross treatment plant and is put through the ball mill to separate particles of zinc metal from zinc oxide. The metal is remelted to make Prime Western or other low-grade alloys, whereas the zinc oxide is fed to the roasters. 

Hard raw materials, such as calciiun carbonate rock or feldspars, are reduced to desired size by successively grinding through one or more jaw crushers and then to a ring mill for final sizing. Oversize partieles are screened after ring milling and returned back through the proeess in a elosed loop system.
