In reproductive and teratogenicity studies with rats and mice (5 mg soluble titanate administered in drinking water) over three generations, rats developed a marked reduction in the numbers of animals surviving to the third generation, and a decline occurred in the male female ratio. By comparison, control mice continued to breed for four generations at a normal rate (Schroeder and Mitchener 1971). 

In 1984, Mark E. Schroeder and Roger F. Flattum at Shell explored for nithiazine as the example, at which site these nitromethylene insecticides interact to effect their pharmacological activity. In cockroaches, the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor turned out to be the target. [140] In insects, the expression of these receptors is limited to the nervous system. There they reach a density, which is comparable only to the electric organ of the South American electric eel (Electro-phorus electricus). [ 141 ] From ligand displacement studies with nerve cell receptors of the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana), the honey-bee (Apis mellifera) and the common housefly (Musca domestica), the a-subrmit of the receptor became evident as the prime locus of interaction for neonicotinoids.

Lead-induced neurobehavioural deficit has been found to be persistent in several animal species, if exposure occurs during the early stages of brain maturation (Winneke, 1986 Lilienthal et al, 1986). Little evidence exists, however, to show that this holds true for children as well. Follow-up studies provide a means to test this possibility. Few such studies have been performed so far Otto and co-workers, using event-related brain potentials as the endpoint, found some persistence of lead-related alteration upon re-testing of the same children after 2 years (Otto et al, 1982) but not after 5 years (Otto et al (1985). Likewise Schroeder et al (1985) were unable to replicate exposure-related IQ deficit in a 5-year follow-up study.
