Shake-up satellite structure in the X-ray photoelectron spectra of [Mo(CNR)7](PF6) (R = Me, Bu, C6H,) has been observed. The similarity of the nitrogen band carbon s Is/lp ratios to those of Mo(CO)6 oxygen b and carbon b Is/lp ratios argues for a similarity in bonding, as a decrease in the metal-carbon bond length (i.e., stronger M-C bonding) will influence both the satellite position relative to the primary peak and the Is/lp intensity ratio (266). [Pg.243]

In a similar fashion GPS, the global positioning system, uses many satellites to achieve an accurate result (see Figure 5.2). When only a few are above the horizon the position fix is perhaps to the nearest kilometre or so, but if there are eight or more satellites, positions can be fixed to a few metres. In recent years, satellite positioning represented by Global Positioning System (GPS) has been in extensive application, and its accuracy and reliability are likely to improve in near future. While some train traffic control systems have already applied GPS as a means of train detection, various technological developments are also under way for the application of GPS. For example, the rotary snow blowers applied the GPS to detect where it locates in the heavy snow. However, if the snow piled up to the GPS antenna, sometimes, the detection is not possible. However, it is unclear what the relationship between the positioning performance of GPS and the depth of piled-up snow to the GPS antennas. This paper reports how dry or wet snow accretion to the GPS antenna decreases the positioning performance. [Pg.545]

In developing these new algorithms, the requirements for sensors added more of them outside of the central control module for two reasons. First, some types of crash were difficult to detect within the short time frame required for deployment (such as offset pole crashes) and the solution was to provide a high-g precrash sensor within the front of the vehicle. And second, the need for side-impact detection required deployment decisions even faster that the frontal crashes (within approximately 5 ms). Both of these requirements moved accelerometers to satellite positions closer to the perimeter of the vehicle where they are more likely to pick up impacts from small objects. [Pg.277]
